![]() Author: Suzanne Woods Fisher Genre: Historical Romance/Amish In a wild country, the true cost of love may be more than they can bear Beautiful and winsome, Betsy Zook never questioned her family's rigid expectations, nor those of devoted Hans--but then she never had to. Not until the night she's taken captive in a surprise Indian raid. Facing brutality and hardship, Betsy finds herself torn between her pious upbringing and the feelings she's developing for a native man who encourages her to see God in all circumstances. Greatly anguished by Betsy's captivity, Hans turns to Tessa Bauer for comfort. She responds eagerly, overlooking troubling signs of Hans's hunger for revenge. But if Betsy is ever restored to the Amish, will things between Hans and Tessa have gone too far? Inspired by true events, this deeply layered novel gives a glimpse into the tumultuous days of pre-revolutionary Pennsylvania through the eyes of two young, determined, and faith-filled women. ![]() Reviewer: Gee Dixon The Return... I loved the characters in the story. The author brings you right into the Historical Amish Romance. This story had a lot of adventure. Honest but suspense in romance. A very moving story. The trials the natives and migrants both experienced around the years this novel was set are almost incomprehensible. At least for me to grasp. What a troubling time. Excellent job depicting those hardships while revealing the hope people still held on to. Even now, if we can let go of our isms of one group over another and hold on to the fact, at the end of the day we belong to the Holy One, talk about peace on Earth. Thank you for this reminder! Suzanne is a story-weaver of excellence. I loved reading of the experiences of Betsy Zook and Tessa Bauer back in 1763. The author tells the tale from both the settlers’ and the natives’ point of view. I found it exciting from start to finish and would recommend it to anyone who loves Christian historical fiction. Both girls learned much about themselves and their relationship to God throughout their experiences. Book provided by Baker Publishing and Graf-Martin Communications, Inc. Leave a Reply. |
