Author: Mo Isom Genre: Christian Living/Self-Help In a world obsessed with sex, why is the church relatively silent about it? While sex is twisted, perverted, cheapened, and idolized in popular culture, we leave young people drowning in the repercussions of misinformation, misunderstanding, and worth-robbing mistakes that could have been avoided. Enough is enough. With raw vulnerability and a bold spirit, Mo Isom shares her own sexual testimony, opening up the conversation about misguided rule-following, virginity, temptation, porn, promiscuity, false sexpectations, sex in marriage, and more, calling us back to God's original design for sex--a way to worship and glorify Him. 11/23/2017 ShineAuthor: Allison Allen Genre: Christian Living/Self-Help It's time you stepped into the light of God's role for you Actors aren't the only ones who play characters. Many of us do, much of the time. We walk into a room, figure out who we're supposed to be in this context, slip into character, is not what God wants for our our lives--and it's not what we want either. With fascinating personal stories and sharp insight into human nature, former actor Allison Allen calls you to drop the brave act and step into the role of a lifetime--being your real self in Christ, no matter what the critics might say. She gives you permission to talk about, rather than around, the things you feel, freeing you to step out of the shadows and into the light of God's true calling. 10/7/2017 Every Piece of Me
or friend of someone else) or our accomplishments (our title, position, education, or accolades). When our identity is wrapped up in these external things, we inevitably--and exhaustingly!--strive to prove ourselves worthy of love, attention, or affirmation.
But God never meant for us to focus on whether we are "enough," whether we measure up. He made us--every piece of us--to be just as he is. Jerusha Clark discovered this while exploring the seven powerful "I am" statements of Jesus recorded in the Gospel of John. Now she invites you to join her in embracing the life and truth of these words, relishing the freedom of an identity fixed on Christ alone while leaving behind fear, bitterness, busyness, and toxic thoughts that steal our joy and limit our power. 8/6/2017 Doing Busy BetterAuthor: Glynnis Whitwer Genre: Christian Living/Self-Help Does this sound familiar? When you're busy, you feel guilty you aren't spending time with family or God. Then, when you try to rest, you feel guilty because there's so much left to do. It's an endless cycle of overwork and exhaustion. Enough is enough! In this burden-lifting book, Glynnis Whitwer helps you examine your heart and your schedule in order to seek a healthy, holy, and enjoyable balance between work and rest. She shows you how to prioritize your goals and your time, how to be present in the moment as Jesus was, and how to find the freedom of true soul rest. Most importantly, she shows you that your worth is found not in your accomplishments but in the love of the One who made you for work and for rest. 3/21/2017 Fear FightingAuthor: Kelly Balarie Genre: Christian Living/Self-Help We all live with fear. It hangs around, whispering in our ears, reminding us of all we can't do or will never be. But that's not the end of the story. We also have a God who draws close to say, Fear not. I am with you. This Spirit transforms us into fear fighters--women breaking free of trepidation to find bold dedication to God's peace-, purpose-, and joy-filled callings. With remarkable compassion born from personal experience, Kelly Balarie shows women how to pull back the curtain of fear so you can find the beautiful woman God created you to be. Reviewer: Laura Thomas Kelly Balarie takes the reader by the hand and with a friendly squeeze, she encourages us to step out of our fears and comfort zones in order to see what God has in store for us: “…stopping and stepping into unsafe forces us to receive God’s new safe.” In a very personable, honest voice she discusses subjects such as comparison, worry, people pleasing, and rejection, always with a practical application and “something to chew on” at the end of each chapter. With personal anecdotes and verses of Scripture, there is plenty to consider—not least, the Twelve Week Fear-Fighting Challenge in the form of a study guide at the end of the book. One of my favorite quotes: “If you spend your whole life grasping for happy in the future, you’ll end up missing God’s transformation in the present.” A good read for any woman battling fear or desiring to step boldly into the fullness of life as a daughter of the King. I have trudged through a few chapters. I was not quick to quit reading it simply because fearless is my word for the year 2017. I wanted to believe I can grasp something from the author. Each section of the book that I have read has been too wordy. Most times leaving me in a whirlwind of confusion. I found myself rereading pages to get a better understanding quite frequently. On the plus, as a non-fiction devotional book, I like how the author made the book personal. Carefully and purposefully incorporating her own struggles of fighting fear day to day. I do believe with a considerable amount of patience, when the reader overlooks the wordiness of the book a pot of gold awaits. A pot full of things like faith, hope, courage, and an understanding that you don't have to have it all together to walk in Christ. And maybe more.
