Wilder and Stormi's story was the perfect conclusion to the Call of the Wild series. I loved Stormi's independence and knowledge as a vet, her compassion and love for animals, her grit and her belief in Wilder. Her fangirl crush on Wilder blossoming into a solid relationship was delightful to witness. I loved Wilder and his humility, depth of character, loyalty, and love for his family. I know nothing about mushing so it was fun to see how the dogs get trained. Both Stormi and Wilder had a lot of baggage - she with her father and the death of her mother and he with the death of his wife. They both needed to understand Who is exactly in control, grieve properly, and let go of their misplaced guilt and misconceptions. The redemptive arc in this story was beautiful.

And the action! Plenty of suspense, near-miss brushes with calamity, and wondering what's around the corner kept the story moving at a fast pace. The Sorros family definitely kept the law enforcement of Copper Mountain and FBI, not to mention Stormi and Wilder, quite busy. Susan May Warren books are always adrenaline-charged adventures worth embarking on. I can't wait for the new series where we'll see more of the Starr family, the Bowie brothers, and the Matthews family in the Alaskan wilderness. Bring it on!

This book ends a series I’ve been devoted to, but it doesn’t end the story of our intrepid friends in the far north. Yay for me! 

I love the way the characters in the story grow and bond in the most difficult circumstances. The authentic way Wilder’s quandary of emotions played out had me ready to weep for him in his self-imposed hopelessness concerning his worthiness to deserve anything good in his life. 

Stormi is the absolute right person for him. She may have her own things to deal with, but her unwavering trust in the faithfulness of God is just the anchor he needs to hold on to and claim for himself.

Danger lurks around every corner, building on the first book in this series and leading to a very satisfactory ending. But before that, there is plenty of action to propel the story forward. It had me wondering what would come next. 

This is a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I will be reading it again and highly recommend it to fans of romantic suspense and books set in the Alaska wilderness.

 It’s another beautifully written, thought-provoking, heart-stirring dual time suspense novel from Jamie Jo Wright. 

The author’s books have become less jump-scare scary and goosebump eerie in recent years (there are still those moments in the book though) but with the same delightful amount of heart, soul, and suspense. 

Eloise from 1879 was the meek, pliable older daughter of a powerful and wealthy man in New Jamestown, IN. Her loyalty to her family and her hunger for love and acceptance made Eloise real, vulnerable, and lovable. 

Tilly from the present time was quirky, smart, loyal to her family, compassionate, and totally unfiltered, which made for honest and transparent conversations. I really enjoyed Tilly’s friendship with Luke. It showed that people can change and how powerful forgiveness can be. Generational sin and evil created suspense in both timelines, and it was gratifying to see both Luke and his older brother break free from the cycle of sin and death mired in the James family.

Luke’s faith was admirable even in the face of loss, grief, and pain. Silas from 1879 was also a worthy hero, though we didn’t see him as much with Eloise as we did Luke with Tilly. And the twists and turns in the plot! Oh, they will surprise and delight you as the puzzle pieces all fall into place.

 If you enjoy Jaime Jo Wright’s books, you will absolutely love this one. If you’ve never read a Jaime Jo Wright book, I highly recommend you pick this one. Full of suspense, twists and turns, fantastic characters, and with the great theme of redemption scaffolding the story, this book will captivate you from beginning to end.

Jaime Jo Wright is the master of dual timeline mysteries.  She introduces a mysterious event, then weaves the past and present together to unravel the truth.  

In 1879,  Evania James has brought dishonor to the James name by having an illicit affair and giving birth to an illegitimate baby.  Her grief when the baby is stillborn gives her father the means of getting rid of the problem.  He has her confined to an insane asylum!  Her sister, Eloise, is horrified and determined to rescue her.

In the present day, Tilly Thompson's beloved Grandpa Don is in the early stages of Alzheimer's.  He knows how much she loves history and purchases the James Mansion for her.  Tilly wants to give her Grandpa the best life possible, so the two move into the mansion so she can be his caregiver.

As the book progresses, these two women slowly uncover several horrific deeds.  Eloise learns that patients of the asylum disappear, probably at the hands of grave robbers!  She encounters a would-be reporter named Silas Dobbs, who has also lost family members to this horror.  The two decide to work together to reveal the truth.

Meanwhile, Tilly stumbles upon a gruesome discovery in her new home and has to rely on Luke James, the last resident of the mansion, for some answers.  The book is full of twists, a bit of romance, and a lot of faith in God.  Both women receive wisdom from their family who point out:  "You are exactly who God made you to be."  "God did not create you to walk alone." 

The author shines a light on several social issues along the way, including addiction, the way women were treated in the late 1800's and the horrors of grave robbing. All in all, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery mixed with messages of faith.

This was fantastic! As always, Wright is a wonderful storyteller whom I fell in love with after reading Echoes of the Stones.

This is definitely a can’t put down story. I’m trying to take my time and savor it. I love a good Jaime Jo Wright story. I wish that I could give it more than 5 stars, but I can’t

I did NOT like Eloise’s father. What an evil man. And what evil acts these people in this story have done. It’s the stuff of nightmares, really, but she always does a good job of scaring us laugh out loud.

It’s awful the way they treated women back then and sometimes still do today too

A wonderful Halloween story, if I’ve ever read one. This one will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Especially if you read it at night time like I did.

If only these walls could talk! I guess in a way they do. You only have to listen! And be watchful.

Another 5 star read from me for Jaime Jo Wright. I loved every minute of this story. It has all kinds of creepy stuff going on it.

You couldn’t get me to stay in that James mansion! Nope, not happening. It’s why I admired those characters from the first page. Most especially Tilly! She’s one brave woman!

I’m sad that this story has ended for me, too. I hope Wright keeps her amazing stories coming cause I’ll read every one of them and even reread the others.

This book is the epitome of Gothic creepiness with a side dose of human resilience and supernatural presence in the vein of Daphne du Marier. 

I have always been a fan of Jaime Jo and this might be one of the best when it comes to plotting the scare factor. 

The mansion alone gives the feel of something lurking in the shadows as it takes on a life of its own in the mind of the reader. It gave me the shivers.

Each character lends itself to the forward momentum of the story and I was on the edge of my seat. Tilly and her curiosity and determination to solve the mystery of the skeleton in the walls made me want to join her. Even though it might scare the pants off me as I lean toward fear of the dark and the unknown.

I love that amidst all of the macabre in her books Jaime Jo always manages to include a timely and meaningful message in each book that has a redeeming quality to it.

Jaime Jo Wright does it again! I have read every book of hers to date and I'm just as impressed with her work as the last. I love how creepy and eerie the stories are and yet they have so much meaning. 

Eloise James is the daughter of a powerful man who controls her every move. When her sister Evania is sent to am asylum for some poor choices Eloise looks into what is happening at the asylum. 

Tilly Thompson and her grandfather purchase the old James mansion. The first week they find a dead body in the walls. Immediately strange things begin to happen in the house. Tilly works hard to discover the past. 

This story is about compassion and that not everything is as it seems. It's beautifully written and of course a page turner as is every other book written by Jamie Jo Wright! this duel time mystery will have you at the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this book!

This may be a Christmas novella but its sunny San Diego setting makes for a delightful read any time of year! 

Sarah Sundin is one of my favourite WWII Christian fiction writers, and this story of family, faith, secrets, and stage was an absolute treat. 

Newly appointed USO Director Maggie Oliver is tasked with creating a moral-building Christmas show for sailors and is thrilled when former Hollywood star (and Maggie’s secret crush) Prescott Duke agrees to take part. 

Prescott is more than happy to oblige as he recovers from an accident that has left him horribly scarred physically and desperately looking for direction in life. 

They create an ambitious performance melding Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and “The Twelve Days of Christmas” carol—and romance blossoms between this talented couple…but, of course, things do not go as planned. 

Atmospheric and heartwarming, I flew through the pages of this book and thoroughly recommend it to lovers of WWII fiction and sweet Christmassy stories!

This was a beautiful novella! Somehow Sundin can write a story that feels complete and full of depth in just a short amount of pages - I was very impressed, yet not surprised. There's a reason she is one of my favorite authors.

Twelve Days and Twelfth Night was both creative and inspiring, and the characters were flawed, realistic, and strong. I loved seeing the story unfold, and even with the mishaps that occurred, the heart just leapt off the page and made for a beautiful tale.

Maggie and Prescott were fantastic characters. I loved them both so much, as well as Maggie's grandpa. 

While short, there is nothing lacking in this novella, and if you're a fan of WWII stories with wonderful characters, I definitely recommend this one.

Twelve Days and Twelfth Night by Sarah Sundin was a fresh take on WWII era events in the USO. I really enjoyed this book; it was good for Christmas in July. This book will have you crying and laughing at times. In this book you will find people who have faith but just like in real life sometimes doubts and seeking self can get people off track, not following God, but sometimes thinking they are or justifying their actions as faith. You will also see how the characters are reminded that God is in control and that He is only Good and shows His lovingkindness to His children, even when we are not so faithful, though we strive to be. What initially drew me to want to read this book was that it is a Christmas book, but then it involved WWII. I usually enjoy books that have a romantic WWII storyline. Another aspect of this book that I thought would be interesting is that it incorporates Shakespeare.

The two main characters are Prescott and Maggie. Prescott is a Hollywood actor who has an accident and is burned which results in scars and he also loses fingers on both hands because of the accident. He turns to isolation and is trying to find a way to do something, but he does not want people staring all the time and thinking that he is a has been, since he really cannot star in any movies anymore.

Maggie is looking for work to be able to afford to continue to help her grandpa, who lost his wife not that long ago. He is working on the house and falls; he breaks several bones and must walk with canes and sometimes be pushed in a wheelchair. Maggie did a short stint in Hollywood, but she did not do so well, so she jumps at the chance to put on a USO show for injured service members. When asked who she wants for the leading man, she does not hesitate to say she wants Prescott. Prescott on his part is eager to get back to doing something, so he immediately takes the role. With her star, she now must come up with a show that will entertain but be acceptable to her boss.

There is a lot of back and forth with Prescott and Maggie both thinking fondly of each other but then thinking that they may be wrong about their feelings and that each one may be interested in other people. Maggie discovers something during the rehearsal phase of the show, and she thinks it will be a good surprise for her friend. Prescott is not so sure and urges her not to go forward with her plan, but Maggie still thinks he is wrong and does not listen to his advice. There are definitely some snags along the way that could keep Prescott and Maggie apart. It is up to you reader to see if they end up together or if things between them end up as only friends or associates. In addition, see how the play turns out.

I recommend this book now or if you prefer to read it during the Christmas season it will not be disappointing. I think everyone can enjoy this book that brings some joy to others in a time when there may not have seemed to be much to be joyful about.

In These Hills by Tamera Alexander is amazing.

I have loved all the author’s books, and this one is now added to that list.

I very much appreciate a book so well researched as this one is.

Her books are written with an authenticity of knowing the area and subject she is writing about.

Historical fiction is my favorite genre to read, and it’s always a wonderful treat to learn in depth about a subject other books give just surface information about. 

We are treated to in-depth information about Lynchburg, Tennessee, and the many happenings there, along with characters written based on previously living people and past events.

I enjoyed reading about Jack Daniel’s Distillery, Mary Bobo and her Boarding House, and the suffrage rally that led to a woman on the run ending up in the hills of Tennessee. 

Women’s Rights are important as she continues with her beliefs, but at what cost as her past catches up with her? A Southern historical fiction containing a clean enemies-to-lovers romance.

Fully recommended!

I was so excited and delighted to see that Tamera Alexander has written another book! She hasn’t written one in a very long time.

When I saw In These Hills, I knew I had to have it. I wasn’t disappointed at all!

Oh, my, this book was everything that I’ve come to expect from this amazing author!

How cool it would have been to time travel back to those times. I’d see firsthand what those women had to deal with and fight for. They fought for our rights as women, and I so admire and appreciate them.

Through this beautiful and sometimes hard story, I was able to do that. There are places I cheered Josephine in, and other places I wanted to cry for her. She’s what made me keep turning the pages. She’s the one who wouldn’t let me go to sleep until she told me her story

Then we have Dodge Coburn. Skeptical, uncertain, and maybe leary at first, but I found myself rooting for him and Bethie too. Especially Bethie.

I actually enjoyed meeting Jack Daniels too. No, I didn’t like the idea of the distillery, but I enjoyed getting to know the man himself. I thought he was the most charismatic man I’ve ever met.

I learned many things from this book. The faith filled themes were wonderful. Some romance, but not overdone. 

I loved everything about this novel, and I was sad when it ended. I finished this book at 3am because I couldn’t put it down.

My friend would agree with this quote from the book:

“We all got our stories, don’t we? Chapters we don’t want read aloud, and other parts we pray to God nobody ever reads at all. But the thing is … He reads them, every page, every word, and loves us anyway. Whatever it is you’re carrying, remember that.” This also came from Nannie Calla’s niece.

Secrets were never meant to be kept. They do tend to come out sooner or later.

Another favorite quote “You can run, but you can’t hide. God always knows where you are.”

“Bethie, we shouldn’t judge all men by one. There are good men in this world. So, to judge them as all being the same isn’t fair to them. Just like not all women, or girls, are the same.” I agree.

This was such a good read that I’ll be thinking about it for a long time to come.

Women of the Bible in 52 Weeks: A Year-Long Bible Study for Women by Ginny Mossman is a thoughtful, approachable study that brings both familiar and lesser-known women of Scripture into fresh focus. Rather than simply revisiting stories many readers already know, it invites women to consider God’s character, His purposes, and how biblical truth can move from head knowledge into everyday faith.

Each week centers on a woman from the Bible and includes:
• A summary of her story and the Scripture passage connected to it
• Guided Bible reading
• Questions that examine the commands, choices, and actions within the story
• Opportunities to consider God’s hand and ultimate purpose in the circumstances
• Personal reflection, whether through looking back at past experiences or considering how to apply the lesson in a future situation

The structure is easy to follow while still allowing space for meaningful reflection. It would work well for personal study, but the questions could also lead to valuable discussion in a women’s small group.

I loved this story from page one! It was an absolute pleasure to read this one. I love stories about Queen Esther. She’s a lovely person. I really hated to see this story end. This author does some amazing writing, and I loved how she brings these characters to life

This book kept me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages to see what happens next. Lots of twists and turns that I never saw coming.

Who would want to harm Esther? I was surprised when I found out who it was. Wow!

I enjoyed this story so much. It’s always a joy to read this author’s books.

As always, Esther is my favorite character in this book. I love her determination, her personality, and the love of her people and fairness to others.

I didn’t want this story to end because I know it will be awhile before she has another one.

I found myself rooting for Danna too. I really enjoyed meeting her and getting to know her. She’s my second favorite person. I loved her determination to help solving who would want to hurt Esther.

One scene in this story kind of made me upset because it involved a horse. I wasn’t happy, and that’s why I rooted for Danna and the other others to find the culprit.

5 stars for a job well done! Thank you for a fantastic story. And for keeping my interest.

Another beautiful story by Amy Lynn Green that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I simply couldn’t put this wonderful novel down. I stayed up late to finish it because of all the wonderful characters that soon became my friends. I loved laughing, crying, and rejoicing with them.

Only one particular character got on my nerves, and that was Joan’s friend Lonnie. He only thought of himself.

I think of all of those characters that I enjoyed, Peggy was my most favorite. I just loved her personality.

Joan was next. She’s the free spirit child. I think that’s why I loved her most.

Lots of things going on in this novel of forgiveness, love, and faith, last of all family.

There’s only one thing that I didn’t care for much. Told from each character’s point of view. Kind of made me feel as if I’m reading several stories in one book, but after a while I figured it out.

However, it did flow smoothly without missing a beat, but I guess I’m not used to reading books like that. It does kind of let you know each character better than you normally would.

However, because I enjoyed the storyline, I’m still giving it 5 stars for a wonderful, heartfelt novel.

I enjoyed this book so much, but then I do all her books. I finished this one at 4 in the morning because it was so good.

I’m automatically giving this one 5 stars because I love the author’s stories and the notes that she leaves at the end. I enjoyed reading about the challenges and hardships of the early 1900’s. They fascinate me.

Leah is a wonderful character and I really admired her. I loved where her heart leaned towards her charity.

Erik is another wonderful character that I enjoyed in getting to know too. I loved the setting of this story, and it was described so well that I thought I was there.

I so appreciated the many messages of faith and reminders that God is always there and that He understands our hearts.

The secrets are what kept me turning the pages. You can run, but not hide. God always knows where you are. Secrets always come out no matter how, or what, or where.

This story was fantastically done! I was swept away from the time I opened this book until the end. Yes, I lost some sleep, but it’s oh so worth it.

I hated to see this novel end. But, it left my heart feeling full and satisfied.

Leah’s heart is in the right place. Will she be able to go forward with it, or will someone stand in her way, as society often always does?

5 stars from me for a job well done! I highly recommend this novel. I was sad when it ended. But, as always, I look forward to seeing what is next from her.

I have had the pleasure of reading several Kimberly Woodhouse’s books; however, they have never been contemporary novels, which was new but interesting to me. Kimberly Woodhouse’s books are sometimes filled with mystery. I liked that this was still a mystery and had the romance that I needed but was also contemporary. I will have to look at more books by her soon.

Sarah Hamaker and Jayna Breigh are new authors to me. I liked their writing style, and I will also have to look at more books. 

I liked the second chance trope that these stories had. I also love that it has Christmasy feelings, which I would have loved to read during Christmas. 

I also liked that these were novellas so it was faster to read, but it provided everything I needed in a book.

A solid trio of Christmas suspense stories.

Do You See What I See by Sarah Hamaker:

First time reading this author and she does a great job of putting suspense into a surprise encounter, weaving a faith thread of forgiveness and going beyond for a friend. Oakleigh has a love that shows obedience to the Golden Rule. 

Do You Hear What I Hear by Jayna Breigh: 

It is always fun to read a Jayna Brieigh story. She really conveys what is in a character’s head. Second chance with Jack is possible but only with forgiveness and compassion. It helps that Elise and Jack are searching for answers together. Legalese is understandable and enjoyable. 

Do You Know What I Know by Kimberley Woodhouse:

A food contest with two people who are surprised to see eachother. Set in Alaska and with danger cropping up, the sparks fly again for Faith and Liam as Liam seeks forgiveness and they both seek God’s will. 

These three accomplished authors put their own expertise into three wonderful novellas. They showcase second chances, love and forgiveness in a charming and suspenseful way.

Lynette Eason and Kelly Underwood are the new dynamic duo when it comes to romantic suspense. Deadly Charade is everything I love in this genre.

There’s a lot to unpack between all the action and forward momentum in this book. You barely take a breath and something else is coming your way. I love how the authors get right down to business when it comes to grabbing and keeping my attention. 

Bryce and Kira have to work undercover as a married couple. What could possibly go wrong? Besides maintaining their cover, they are embroiled in bringing down a smuggling ring while also fighting, or not, their growing attraction for each other. The way they interact together is realistic and fits well into the story. 

Like any good suspense there are harrowing moments, times I held my breath and just had to read one more page, and then one more. It’s that good.
