And what is the price of valor? Reviewer: Gee Dixon Susie Warren does it again! This is book three of the Global Search and Rescue Series, and it has been a real treat. If you have read all three books, please do so. You will not be disappointed. If I had had one full day to sit down and read this, I would have. Horrible people kidnapped Signe Kincaid while she was serving as a humanitarian aid worker in Chechnya. She had secret information about Russian assets. She feared her daughter Aggie was in danger, so she sent her to her dad, Hamilton Jones, to whom Signe is married. This story involves a volcano eruption and Signe back in Hamilton's arms. Will Signe stay in his comforting arms? You must read the book to find out. I give this book five stars! I received this book courtesy of Baker Publishing Group through Interviews and Reviews. Reviewer: Amy Smelser I have been waiting for Ham and Signe's story since this series began and I am very happy to finally have closure. It did not come without heartache, and the why's, and the seriousness of their situation- but it came in spite of all of that. Author Warren certainly puts her characters through the ringer. Yes they are heroes and spies and secret agents, but wow. And when you throw in a fractured family and a love that is determined by strength of will to forgive all wrongs, then prepare to hold on to your reading seat. Sometimes I just wanted to shake some sense into Signe, for her past choices and for the choices she was continually making that seemed like she just did not learn her lesson. Ham was such a hero and his love for her, his daughter, and the driving tenacity that he had as he strived to get the life he knew he wanted with them both. This was a good third book in this series. Not only do we get Ham and Signe's story, but also closure for Orion and Jenny. And that was another tearjerker for me. Every time author Warren writes a new series, it becomes my new favorite. I received a copy of this novel courtesy of Revell publishers through Interviews and Reviews. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own. Reviewer: June McCrary Jacobs An action-packed romantic suspense story . . . This contemporary novel begins at a carnival in Lester, Minnesota. Hamilton Jones and his friends/teammates, Orion Starr and Jenny Calhoun, are entertaining Ham's newly-discovered ten-year-old daughter Aggie. Everyone was having a seemingly normal time at the fair until things unraveled . . . Things rarely slowed down, even for a few pages, for the rest of the novel. Hamilton 'Ham' Jones is a former Navy SEAL who now owns his own security firm. Former teammates from his military days are his employees. I had not previously read a book in this 'Global Search and Rescue' series, nor had I read a book by this author. There is a large circle of characters in this story. Add to that the many villains and shady characters from the team's past, and I found I had to do some rereading to get everyone straight. Once I was familiar with the characters, the plot was fluid and well-constructed. This book is basically non-stop action; non-stop trauma; and non-stop trouble for just about every member of the team. The story is intense. The characters are intense. The emotionally-charged events are intense. The faith thread and spiritual lessons are intense. The author effectively uses her complex plot and the circle of characters to help the main characters heal from their core wounds reaching back to childhoods and continuing all the way up to the present. These people are dedicated and loyal to each other, and they are courageous patriots who will do just about anything for their country. There is also a peripheral character, Pastor Dan, who shares meaningful words of wisdom with Ham. I feel the pastor was a valuable addition to the story on many levels. Many of the quirks and problems between the couples on a personal level were realistic and believable. One character, in particular, lied about everything. Some of the action scenes defied belief. I felt there was a fair amount of violence and references to physical/sexual abuse in the book which some readers may find to be unappealing in this genre. I received a paperback copy of this book from Revell Publishers through Interviews & Reviews. All opinions expressed are solely my own. Reviewer: Nora St. Laurent This author pulls out all the stops in this third installment of the Global Search & Rescue series. She takes readers on a fast-moving, powerful, high-octane Navy Seal adventure you will not soon forget. From the start, the characters and their situations pull you in and grab your heart. Because the author has had readers in the midst of all these characters' lives from the beginning, I was hooked. I stayed up burning the midnight oil on this one. This is a nail-biting romantic, suspenseful read taking in natural disasters to chasing assassins in order to get top-secret information at any cost. I like how the author showed flashbacks to when Signa and Ham met and went to school together as they deal with horrific situations in current time. I liked how the author weaves a natural thread of faith throughout this story. She does well to weave the element of family and all its struggles too. Another injured couple on this team is Jenny and Iron. They have serious issues to hash out and realize there is no perfect time to share their thoughts. A family friend, Scarlett, tells Jenny, “Iron has hero written all over him. He is one of the sweetest, most thoughtful--- “Generous, giving, and brave men I know. And more. He’s a man of faith, he’s a rescuer, he would be a great husband- and father…” She urged Jenny to stop running away. Just because Iron is not fulfilling her expectations does not mean he is not a good guy. Scarlett wants her to slow down and take another look. This novel includes all the characters readers have gotten to know in the other books. Which makes this third installment all the richer and heart-warming to read. But if you have not read any of the other books, readers will not feel lost. But they will be curious to know more. They will want to go back and see where all these characters have come from. I was so captivated by this non-stop action-adventure I had to remember to breath. This novel would work great for your next book club pick. I look forward to having my book club discussion on this novel. Wow! My head is still reeling from this incredible, extraordinary read. I’ve been waiting for Hamilton Jones’s story throughout this series and was cheering for him to have a happy ending. Warren keeps the reader guessing with many twists and turns throughout the tale. It’s fun to see the other team members show up during the story to continue their relationships. Hamilton and Signe are such intriguing characters, and I enjoyed learning more about their background. I admired Ham’s capacity for forgiveness in extremely difficult circumstances but also his capacity for love and compassion. Warren’s characters are always well-drawn and fascinating, which is one of the many reasons I enjoy her stories. At times I felt the nonstop action was a bit over the top in this book with one adrenaline rush after another. Some of the happenings seemed quite unrealistic to me. Although I liked the team members, I was left feeling that I’d hate to hang out with them because they were constantly in danger from one thing or another. I was sometimes wishing for just one boring day. I guess it was a good thing there was a strong faith element, because they needed it to just survive and get through each day. All in all, it’s been a great series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing through Interviews and Reviews. All opinions are my own.
