Join the adventure as the Daughters of the Mayflower series continues with The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse. Reviewer: Laura J. Davis I have been enjoying the Daughters of the Mayflower series since the very first book The Mayflower Bride (also by Kimberley Woodhouse) and I am still enjoying them! The Pirate Bride (to be released August 1, 2018) required a lot of research and inspiration for the author as she had to get inside the heads of some very real and important historical figures - Benjamin Franklin and George Washington for instance! But, rest assured the author did a wonderful job. This particular book was heavy on Scripture, with many passages of the Psalms included. Faith Jackson, our heroine, is recruited to become a spy for the Patriots during the days when America was trying to break free of the tyranny of the English. I learned so much history about this time that it made me wonder why Canadians (of which I'm one) put up with King George. Did he not tax us in the same way? Were we too polite to rebel? I'm going to have to do some research now because this really bothered me. That said, I loved the mystery and intrigue of this book! Matthew Weber, a Patriot, spying on the Loyalists never expected love to find him during such a dangerous time, but he meets Faith (who brings him coded messages) and love begins to bloom between the two of them. One thing I loved about this book was the pompous character of Anthony Jameson. What a hoot this character was! He was determined to marry Faith and he wouldn't take no for an answer. Like me, you will be thrilled with how Faith deals with him. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to the next installment of The Daughters of the Mayflower. Leave a Reply. |
