I read a similar book to this some time ago, related to teen pregnancy in the church, and once again I'm saddened that scenarios like the one in The Pastor's Daughter are all too true to life.  You can definitely feel the author's heart and desire to help those who find themselves in a similar situation to Ebony's.  While I didn't agree with every theological point in this story, there was definitely a lot to think about.

WHAT I LIKED:

• This is a short book and the subject matter was interesting (in a sad way) so it was a quick read.
• The 'confessions' provided extra insight into Ebony's character.
• Like I said, you can see the author's passion for helping people in this story.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:

• The plot could have been more interesting. There were quite a few 'preachy' passages that I skimmed over because they lasted for so long. (And this isn't a long book.)
• The writing was iffy. Phrases like "she cuddled the toilet" (when one character is vomiting) weren't my favorite.  I think the story could benefit from a line editor.
• Since this book was short, I didn't get much of a chance to get to know the different characters.  I would have liked to.

Overall, this book is a quick read that most Christians would find interesting and perhaps even convicting.

This short novella focuses on one young lady’s fall from the favored place of pastor’s daughter. As a pastor’s daughter Ebony was held up as an example. The novella has two parts: the first, a third-person account of the day to day story of Ebony’s dilemma and the second, sandwiched between chapters, Ebony’s first-person confessions.  The story almost reads like a mystery. Who was the culprit? Several characters seem to qualify but we are left in suspense until about three-quarters of the way through. Ebony’s confessions read true - the plea of a teenage girl for understanding instead of judgement.

Although this is a distinctly Christian book, every teenage girl would do well to read it and can relate to the agony Ebony is experiencing. The Christian message of love and redemption comes through clearly.

There were some instances, at least in my copy, of misspelled words and I found the timeline not always consistent. But, despite these few irksome details, the story is captivating and worth the hour or so it takes to read.
