The Debutante's Secret

Picture
Author: Mary Davis
Genre: Historical Romance
Series: The Quilting Circle #4
Release Date: July 22, 2021

Will Geneviève open her heart to a love she never imagined?

Washington State 1894

Geneviève Marseille, a French socialite, has only one purpose in coming to Kamola—stopping her brother from digging up the past. She has reluctantly journeyed alone to the quaint college town in central Washington State. Kamola is so different from her beloved Paris that she is tempted to abort her mission, but the kindness of a handsome deputy tempers her desire to flee.

Deputy Montana has lived a simple life. But when a fancy French lady steps off the train and into his arms, his modest existence might not be enough anymore. Even though he’s warned he can have no future with Miss Marseille because her grandparents would never accept him, he is drawn to her at every turn. Can he make himself worthy of her?

Mystery surrounds Aunt Henny. She is aunt to all but related to no one in Kamola. When a nemesis from her past arrives, she must decide whether to flee as she’d done all those years ago, or stand her ground in the town she’s made her home and risk going to jail.

When secrets come out, will the lives of Geneviève, Montana, and Aunt Henny ever be the same?

Genevieve Marseille, pampered and spoiled granddaughter of Madame and Monsieur Marseille, her Grand-mére and Grand-pére, escaped Boston to follow her brother and thwart his quest.

However, Genevieve was NOT prepared for the wildness of Kamola, Washington. After all, she was a French socialite currently living in Boston.

Deputy Montana is fascinated by the needy, vulnerable socialite who knows almost nothing about life and society, even though she has traveled the world.

The Debutante’s Secret, by Mary Davis, is a compelling and intriguing story. Threads of the other three books in The Quilting Circle series are sewn all through the course of this novel. Mystery, deception, scheming and duplicity run rampant while faith, trust and forgiveness are interspersed throughout.

One plotline alluded to and introduced in the other three books is gathered together with a shocking and sad reveal. Because of this, I feel it is necessary to read the other three books first.

Mary Davis has authored a gripping tale with an impervious man and timorous woman who learn to be sensitive and strong for each other. There are some characters you will love and some you will despise, but the story is sure to hold your attention.

This was a sweet easy to read historical romance that touches on the themes of forgiveness, love, and where a person finds their worth. Is it in material possession or in something much deeper?

Genevieve secretly traveled west to stop her brother from digging up secrets that might be better left alone. She’s completely out of her element in the small town of Kamola where nothing follows the rules of etiquette she’s accustomed to.

Deputy Montana finds himself more than interested in the fancy French lady he rescues on the platform at the train depot. Little does he know how quickly he will be entwined with her family.

I liked the premise of this story. It was interesting, but something in the pacing at the beginning made me want to skip ahead. I’m glad I didn’t. As the story moved along I was more invested and anxious to see how things were resolved.

T
he characters were all well written whether you loved them, lost patience with them, or downright despised them.

I was given a copy of this book from Mountain Brooke Ink through interviews & Reviews. This is my honest opinion of the book.
