'Out of the Shadows,' written by Emma Carrie, was an intriguing book that was hard to put down. It was an interesting read because it felt like a conversation that you joined part way through, not knowing what was already said but becoming actively involved in the people and content and then having the others walk way still talking; so you were left wondering what was being said and would happened after that. 'Out of the Shadows' had a creative plot and the characters, as they were introduced were well developed. However, the main character, Emily left you wanting to know more about her, what happened to her parents, what her life with her former guardian (and who he was) was like and how she developed certain abilities.There was some clarity towards the end of the novel. However, it certainly left you with many unanswered questions, it left you wanting more.

I gave this book 3 stars because even though the characters were well developed you were left wondering what happened before and after. There was very little reference to God, expect that faith was important to the main character Emily and that she attended church. If a sequel is written I would certainly be interested in reading it to see the progression of and direction of their lives and for closure.

Couldn’t put it down! I loved this story of the efficient and business-like Vick Tacket, and the elusive girl, Emily Brelin. Vick is torn between doing what her best friend asked, adopting the girl, and doing her job as a police detective. Emily’s instinct is to run back into hiding, but she also wants to honor the life of the woman who took her in. Great conflict.

The mark of a good book is when you hate to get to the end. I so wanted to see where their relationship would take them. I hope there’s a sequel soon.
