One Dominion: Celebrating Canada, Prepared for a Purpose invites readers into an exploratory journey through Canada’s history, highlighting key moments of faith and Christian influence, from the founding of educational institutions and hospitals, to the creation of countless charitable organizations and architectural masterpieces. With inspiring accounts of individuals who founded our country upon the Living Word of God, One Dominion helps readers uncover a deeper understanding of Canada’s foundations and futures, through Scripture and the tests of faith passed by those who have gone before. In this carefully crafted book, Paul Richardson, President of Bible League Canada, and Bob Beasley, Vice President of International Ministry at Bible League Canada, identify Canada’s purpose and mandate as a nation, as inscribed on the Peace Tower of Parliament Hill: “He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.” (Psalm 72:8 KJV) Through stunning photography and enthralling historical accounts, this book is designed to instill confidence and hope in the Christians of Canada and encourage them to steward well the resources, opportunities, and peace with which this country has been blessed. Richardson encourages, “Canadians have much to be thankful for, past, present, and future, and much to steward well, both at home and for the benefit of other countries. This is a great reminder of just that.” Reviewer: Laura J. Davis This year it is no secret that Canada is celebrating its 150th birthday and one of the best books about our great country comes from the Bible League of Canada. One Dominion by Paul Richardson (President of Bible League Canada) and Bob Beasley, (Vice President of International Ministry at Bible League Canada) have created a stunning, full-colour coffee table book that is a must have for every Canadian. If there is any doubt in the minds of Canadians of what principals and values this country was founded on, this book will put those doubts to rest. We were undoubtedly and without shame founded on Christian principals and a belief that God would have dominion over us from sea to sea. The remarkable things I did not know (because they were not taught in schools I went to) was the faith of our founders and the organizations that developed based on the Christian faith. How many Canadians know for example, that our most celebrated Canadian, Tommy Douglas (voted the Greatest Canadian of all time) was a Christian? It is because of his Christian compassion that Canadians have free access to medical care today. How many know that most of the universities they attend today were founded because of the Christian faith, or that the Hosptial for Sick Kids was started by a Christian woman? Consistently, we see throughout early Canadian history, and even more recently, that the leaders of our nation and the architects of our society have recognized the foundation of Jesus Christ and His Word. It has been etched in stone in the Peace Tower, formed in glass in the windows, inscribed in metal in the bells, written in ink in our constitution and Charter of Rights and sung in the words of our national anthem. All of these aspects of Canadian history recgonize the supremacy of God and the importance of His Word. - One Dominion, 2017 I wonder how many Canadians realize that we were called the Dominion of Canada based on a scripture verse that says: "He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth" (Psalm 72:8, KJV).
Yet as I read this book my heart began to break a little at how quickly our current Prime Minister and his government are destroying all the values this country was founded on. By enacting laws that oppose God - like assisted suicide, or abortion, to the current laws now in place intended to curb the freedom of speech for most people of faith. This book will become a precious keepsake therefore, on what we once were. One Dominion is an inspiring read and one I was honoured to receive for review. It will be treasured for many years to come. I received this book from Bible League Canada and Graf-Martin Communications, Inc. Leave a Reply. |
