Author: D.A. Greiner Genre: Mystery/Suspense An unusual Sunday morning visitor. A heart-broken preacher’s wife. A resourceful gangbanger with a murderous past. A crooked U.S. Senate candidate. What thread ties these unlikely characters together? Follow the breadcrumbs as More Than Sparrows takes readers on a harrowing and heartwarming journey. From a church office to dangerous back alleys to the halls of political sanctum, the suspense builds as people of faith risk everything to right wrongs and straighten crooked paths. Courage and conscience is tested as never before. Will they tune in to God’s plans and help each other? Turn the pages and see for yourself how God turns fear to faith, doubt to hope, and loss to love. Reviewer: Martha Robinson More Than Sparrows is a contemporary Christian novel. The central problem confronting the members of White River Church is: What should the church do now that most of its members are senior citizens, and the neighborhood around them has changed? Should they sell the property and move the church to the suburbs? Or should they stay and minister to the new community? Patty Humphrey, wife of the associate pastor of White River Church and also the church secretary, wonders, “What is my ministry? What does God want me to do. . . ?” Artie, an older black woman dressed in tattered blankets, visits the church and meets Patty. While Patty has lots of questions and doubts, Artie clearly receives her instructions from her constant communion with God. Artie challenges Patty to leave the church building and travel downtown. A second story line tells of Delbert Voss, a successful black businessman, who wants to be appointed the next Senator. A third story line centers on 2DubC, a young black street thug, who as a vigilante, has robbed several drug runners during creative vehicular accidents. I enjoyed this book immensely. The Christian message was strongly presented. It was well-written with realistic characters, although I did think Artie was more angel than human. The novel was very suspenseful—up to the very last page. Although there was no reader study guide or questions at the back, I think More Than Sparrows would be an excellent book for church members to read and discuss. Reviewer: Kandace Perry Intriguing. Inspiring. Heart Warming. Impactful. More Than Sparrows by D.A. Greiner beautifully weaves together our love for one another and our Lord with the hurts of the world. Greiner shows us that no matter what our circumstances are we can make a difference and we each have something to offer. More Than Sparrows reminds us that there is more to people than what we see in our initial glance; there is a depth to people that is not based on how we are dressed. Greiner reminds us how important it is to search our soul and discover the talents God has given us AND even more importantly to use those talents and abilities to further the Kingdom.
