Author: Susan Kimmel Wright Genre: Mystery/Suspense Series: Mysteries of Medicine Spring #3 Pages: 308 Release Date: September 20, 2023 Publisher: Mountain Brook Ink The last thing Mabel needed was a flying saucer, not to mention a rash of similar sightings all over town. Her life's already been upended by getting fired and moving to Grandma's old house in Medicine Spring. So far, the deceptively sleepy village has delivered several murders-and romance with a handsome private investigator. Are little green men next? While Mabel tries to get to the bottom of the apparent space invasion, she also gets herself caught between competing candidates for township supervisor. Small-town politics call for more diplomacy than she has-not to mention the ability to duck, run, and hide. And unfortunately, her UFO investigation only raises more questions. Long-buried secrets surface, all tied to one night in 1958 and another seeming alien attack. But something more troublesome than any Martian invasion is on its way. A film crew descends, bent on producing a documentary on the historic UFO crash. Hordes of tourists follow, all infected with flying saucer fever. When an all-too-human body turns up at the alleged alien gravesite in a local cemetery, Mabel realizes murder is bound to follow her, whether of this world or not. Reviewer: Beverly Laude Mabel has returned to Medicine Spring, Pennsylvania, after being fired from her job as a big city lawyer. She is living in her grandmother's house with her dog, Barnacle, and cat, Koi, trying to start a new career as an author. Returning home from a Historical Society meeting late one night, she observes mysterious bright lights in the sky and wonders if she has just had an encounter with a UFO! She soon discovers that her small town has a history of (supposed) UFO encounters, most famously in 1958 with a reported alien abduction and UFO crash. Soon, a film crew complete with a handsome star and a surly debunker arrive to make a documentary about these events. But before that can happen, Mabel and her boyfriend, John, find themselves involved in a murder investigation. Along with a town filled with UFO tourists, a local alien abductee (with his own UFO museum), and a contentious election, Mabel is about to give up on ever getting any writing done! She has to navigate through fights between believers and non-believers, investigating her friends who might be murderers, and mysterious happenings in the local cemetery, all while trying to get her home repaired in time for winter. If you enjoy a well-written cozy mystery with great characters, cuddly pets, a bit of romance, and a unique storyline, you will enjoy this book. I look forward to more adventures with Mabel and her friends. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Mountain Brook Ink through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.
