Author: Deborah J. Simmons/ Linda J. Orber Genre: Devotional This book is an invitation to God’s loving presence. It is an invitation to deepen your relationship with God. It includes a quote from a spiritual leader, commentary, a Bible quote, and a guided meditation. It also includes a moment to fully imagine God speaking directly to your own heart. This gives you an invitation to learn to turn to his love and presence throughout the day and into the evening. As you open your heart you will learn again and again that God is there with you. You are never alone. Reviewer: Nicole Wegscheider The book, Love, God co-written by authors — Deborah Simmons-Roslak and Linda Orber is a fascinating adventure of God’s love. My understanding of the depth of God’s love was expanded and my perspective was stretched. As I read through the book, the authors encouraged me to actively engage with God on a variety of topics such as guidance, judgement and comparison, being refreshed, etc. Each section was designed in a facilitated format, — a topic for consideration, an opportunity for the reader to talk with God, an opportunity for the reader to listen to God, a guided meditation and a section to write thoughts and experiences. With each step of this journey, I made interesting discoveries. Love is one of our highest callings. This book encouraged me to put love into action as I invited God into several interactive conversations. There are many rich nuggets of information throughout the book. I enjoyed the idea about poverty as the poverty of being unwanted and the poverty of not being cared for. Wow, what an amazing perspective! I also liked the quote that “love is always loving, giving and emptying itself without lack” (p.86). God’s love is “eternal and always waiting for you to come home to what is truly yours” (p 109). As children of God, it is important to regularly engage and connect with God’s amazing love. This book was a fascinating interactive reading experience which I would highly recommend. Many would benefit from reading the book, Love, God. Reviewer: Sandra Burson I found this to be a very well written book and a perfect devotional. I planned on reading it one chapter at a time for my devotions, but found that didn't work for me. I would come to a certain passage and the inspiring words of the authors and would need to spend more time and read it over again, to let it sink in. This book came to me at a perfect time when I needed it. Only God. Many passages spoke to my heart. I feel the authors prayed as they were writing Love,God in order for it to impact so many lives. I would recommend this book. Don't be in a hurry to get through it, let God speak to you through it. This is one of my favorite parts in this devotional “ No punishment or pain could be meted forth by a loving creator who sees and holds only a child molded of Ultimate love, peace, and joy. There could be no loving God who is also a master of punishment and prizes. Trust that all experiences in life give an opportunity for growth in the core of who you are and as Love holds you to be. All of heaven stand by you, in you and with you." I received a copy of this book from Resource Publications through Interviews and Reviews. The opinions in this book are my own.
