MORRISSEY, author of Love Letters to God: Deeper IntimacyThrough Written Prayer Reviewer: Robert Morton Carol Round has written an excellent book about journaling. I have tried to journal many times in my life and have always wound up stopping because a lot of it got repetitive. Most of what I wrote was like a diary more than a journal. What I needed was a kick to move out of that and into something better. This book was it. The author takes the time to lay out what is called prayer journaling. Each day, as a Christian, we should take time to read the Bible and pray. So often our prayers never seem to be answered. In journalling them out to God, we now have a written form that we can return to later and see that they really are answered. In reading the Bible, so often we forget what we read. Again, doing this helps us to be able to return later when times of need come up. The journalling can also be done with devotionals that you read. My only problem with the book is the audience. I am a male, and for the most part the cover implies that this book is for everyone. While a few male authors are cited, the book is clearly written with a female in mind. This is not a complaint, as I can clearly learn from anything written for anyone. It is pointed out in case someone did have a problem with it. I would recommend this book to any of my Christian friends wanting to know more about praying and journaling together. Reviewer: Gee Dixon Carol Round writes about keeping a Prayer Journal and how to begin. How you can be intimidated about doing it; but when you think of it you are writing to the One that will love you no matter what. She states how prayer journaling is good for your health whether it be physical, mental or emotional. If you are honest with God and get the things off your chest that are burning in your soul and stopping you from growing a deeper relationship with Him, your relationship will grow with him immensely. The author challenges you to do a prayer journal for 40 days. She includes a "My Covenant with God" to sign and be committed to doing your own Prayer Journal. It will cost you basically nothing. A spiral binder and your favorite pen. Plus, the most important part is to read this book. It will help you get started and throughout your journey. Reviewer: Crystal P. I was so excited to discover this book. The title alone really intrigued me and made me super interested in the book. Although this book came from a Methodist's point of view, and myself being a Baptist, I was not disappointed. The author starts off by explaining what prayer is and it really spoke to me when she used examples, such as when people try to avoid working on their relationship with God by making excuses when it realistically "takes work from both sides" to have a better relationship with the Lord. I really was amazed after reading about Carol Round sharing her personal experiences that she had with the Lord from her journaling and reading the other women's experiences with journaling. It was so encouraging to see how much it helped them. There's a whole chapter on Journaling as a Spiritual Practice and it really explains the benefits of spiritual journaling. If you want to gain a closer relationship with the Lord, you should totally pick up this book!
