to reach the downed plane and is shocked to recognize the badly injured pilot as British RFC Captain Simon Forrester. She risks her life to conceal him from the Germans, but as the secrets between them grow and the danger mounts, can they still hope to make it out of Belgium alive? Reviewer: Janis Cox I love historical fiction. I did not like history as a student, but now I find that when it is incorporated into a fiction story, I love it. I had not read any fiction from WWI period before. Kate writes with a passion and description that took me instantly into the story of Eve and her family in occupied Belgium. The story is so believable, intriguing and captivating that I had trouble putting it down. In fact, I spent most of my Sunday curled up and finishing the story. Not only did I learn history lessons from this story but I also had a small glimpse into the hardships faced during this period, and the daring exploits taken to secure victory for the Allies. The relationship between the hero and heroine is genuine, and the story is filled with mystery and subterfuge. I highly recommend High as the Heavens, and I will be checking out Kate’s other books. Reviewer: Kelly Potts High as the Heavens has a fantastic plot, memorable characters and a theme of forgiveness woven throughout. War widow Eve leaves the safety of Britain at the beginning of World War I and heads to the arms of her mother and the rest of her family in Brussels. The novel depicts the horrors of the war and the citizens who risk their lives to send secret messages to the Allies. A plane crash in her small town , a wounded allied soldier, and a double agent turns Eve's already dangerous life upside down. In her lovely style of writing and intriguing story line, the author wove a fascinating espionage plot that kept me fascinated until the end. I absolutely LOVE the cover, and when I first saw it a year ago, I knew I simply HAD to read it! There were a few moments throughout that my attention wasn't held. It was full of so many amazing moments, but I think some of the intense scenes weren't as written as action filled as they should have been. There were several violent moments, one scene more detailed than the rest. But overall, nothing that was too detailed. Can't help having some violence in a war book! Eve and Simon's relationship was so lovely. I haven't read a lot of books where the main characters are married, and it was a nice change. There were lots of kisses throughout (all pure and right, and nothing extremely detailed),and some readers might be uncomfortable with some insinuations of married life. The religious message is from the Catholic point of view. It wasn't extremely heavy, and there did seem to be moments that pointed to salvation in Christ. Then again, one moment Eve thought how she had been forgiven by God by confessing to the priest. Nonetheless, relying on God and having faith in Him was great throughout. This author knows how to weave a good story, and I'm looking forward to possibly trying more of her works in the future!
