Series: Grace #3

William Macdonald is at the pinnacle of his career. Pastor of a growing megachurch and host of a successful national radio programme. Clever and respected, he’s a man with everything, including a secret. His wife has left him and he can’t risk anyone finding out.

Blanche Macdonald is struggling. Her once rock-solid marriage is showing cracks. She promised to love her husband for better or for worse, but does loving always mean staying? Blanche desires to put God first. Not William. Not her daughter. Not herself.

When is a marriage over? When do you stand and fight?

If you have never read a book by Australian author Christine Dillon, I suggest you start with her Grace series. I have had the pleasure of reading them from the first book, and the conclusion in her final novel, Grace in Deep Waters was everything I hoped it would be and more.

After refusing to attend his own daughter's funeral, Pastor William MacDonald has managed to ostracize his wife, his other daughter and his mother. As a preacher with a high profile, he has become arrogant and proud, believing everyone is either wrong or beneath him. He thought Esther didn't have enough faith to cure her cancer, and that is why she died. What he refused to see is that Esther's faith in Christ was genuine while his was fake.

When his elders ask him to take some time off to mourn, he is sent to an island where a small church is not impressed by his celebrity. He soon learns the difference between acting like a Christian and being a faithful follower of Christ.

This final book in the series not only gets into the heart and mind of William and why he is the way he is, but it helps the reader to look within themselves to examine whether or not they are real followers of Jesus as well.

This book will make you think.

I love that the author doesn't shy away from it being a genuinely faith-based novel. So many "Christian" books today barely scratch the service of what it means to follow Jesus. Dillon's books are a refreshing change of pace. Also, she does it in such a way that you don't feel like you've read a faith-based book. She has the unique ability to let the reader inside the minds of her characters and so we travel the journey with William as he discovers what he has been missing all his life.

If you have not read any of the other books, I suggest you start at the beginning with Grace in Strange Disguise as I was a little lost with a lack of backstory concerning Rachel (and I read all the books!).

This is a beautiful finish to a great series. I highly recommend it!

I purchased a copy of this book and these are my honest opinions.

Laura thank you. Good news. There are likely to be 3 more books in the series. Please pray that I'll have the ability, time and courage to write them.
