God Has a Scrub Brush

Author: Renee Kinlaw
Genre: Bible Study

"Some things must be removed before Revival can take place." --Rev. Jim Willey.

Let's face it, no one likes to clean house. Seriously, what's the point? It will only be dirty again tomorrow. But, if we want to live in a home that is organized and orderly, we must continue to clean it on a daily basis. The same thing is true for our Spiritual House. In this Bible Study, Renee walks with God through her kitchen and learns that not only is her physical house in need of a spring cleaning but her spiritual house is too. Come sit down with Renee and pray the prayer of Psalm 139:23-24 with her.

God Has a Scrub Brush written, in love, by Renee Kinlaw warmed my soul! I knew from the first few pages that this work was led by the Holy Spirit. From the introduction to the very last sentence, this book is filled with wisdom and grace, with good humor sprinkled throughout.

Ms. Kinlaw invites the reader to take a look into her personal relationship with Christ and how He teaches her to deepen her Christian walk through the mundane task of spring cleaning her home. With each new chore, she writes about how the physical work of cleaning corresponds with what God wants to do in our spiritual houses. The author's transparency and honesty regarding her own failures both in housework and in spiritual cleaning make this book highly relatable.

After each chapter, the author includes various questions that help you to scrub deeper under the surface so that you can apply what was written to your own life. She also includes a space for "polishing" to help the reader reflect and allow the Holy Spirit to minister on each topic.

I enjoyed every part of this book. Reading it felt like I was sitting down with a good friend discussing all the wonderful ways that the Lord speaks to us. I feel enriched by reading it and I'm quite sure that I smiled through the whole thing.

In “God Has a Scrub Brush”, Renee Kinlaw shows us how cleaning our Spiritual House is very similar to cleaning our physical home.  As Renee walked with God as she cleaned her house, she realized that just as our homes are in need of a good spring cleaning, our hearts (Spiritual Houses) also need a good scrubbing.  God has just the scrub brush.  With our permission, God can enter each room in our Spiritual House and scrub us until we are a pure, holy vessel just as He intended.

But we can’t just clean it once and let it go.  We must attend to our Spiritual House daily, just as we do our home. It is only through this daily cleansing that we can ever hope to experience revival.  And revival only comes as each person experiences this cleaning.

In her book, Kinlaw offers us wise counsel on cleaning and a Bible study to help us start our spiritual cleansing.  This is an excellent book for personal study and small group discussion.

Not only is Renee Kinlaw, author of God Has a Scrub Brush, my pastors wife, she's a dear friend! She's a Jesus loving, kind hearted, hard worker, strong woman of God that's dedicated to her church and family! The book has such encouragement on how it's so much more important that our "Spiritual homes stay decluttered and in order much more so than our earthly homes. It's a good reminder that God's concern is for our inner vessel, not outer! Grab a good cup of coffee or some fresh lemonade and see what kind of scrub brushes God's got for you and get busy about God's business!
