![]() Author: Sara Davison Genre: Mystery/Suspense Series: Two Sparrows for a Penny #2 Pages: 350 Release Date: February 15, 2023 Publisher: Self-Published Safe is the most dangerous feeling of all. For as long as she can remember, Rose Galway has been a captive, controlled by one man or another. To her, though, God is the one holding the keys, refusing to set her free despite the desperate pleas she has sent heavenward. Detective Laken Jones has known hardship too, including the daily trauma of racism. Still, nothing he has gone through compares to what Rose has endured. He wants nothing more than for her to experience hope and healing and maybe even happiness in her life. But first he has to find her. Laken is willing to risk everything to set Rose free. And to help her find her way to God. Even if that means letting go of her—and the future he envisions for the two of them—forever. ![]() Reviewer: Anna Bottoms There are no words to describe this book—it’s that good. The tension began right from the start as I met Rose locked in a dark room with no way to escape. I was plotting in my head how she was going to get out. It wasn’t long before her fear and despair became my own. Enter Laken, a detective determined to find her no matter the cost. He isn’t sure why he’s so invested in the case of a woman he’s never met, but he’s not giving up. The first time they meet is through a door. With danger all around, he’s not about to leave her alone. He’ll protect her with his life if he has to. Again, no words to say how good this book is. Rose has one chance at freedom, and it’s talking to her from the other side of that door. The small hope building within her at the sound of his voice had my heart beating the same rhythm. With danger chasing her heels, and trauma prodding her psyche, Laken may be the only one who can keep her safe. It certainly won’t be God. Or will it? Sara Davison knows how to tackle tough subjects, giving the victims dignity while writing just enough detail to anchor the story. She doesn’t sensationalize but writes authentically moving stories. I absolutely loved this book and will definitely read the next one. I was given a copy courtesy of the author through Interviews and Reviews. This is my honest opinion.
