Encountering Darkness written by Paul Brandt is filled with mystery and suspense. It leads us  through a journey of graphic, unexpected, even intense twists and turns as it tosses us between the realms of heaven and hell. Encountering Darkness vividly portrays how the choices we make here on earth directly determines our eternal home. Brandt's characters signify the importance of making the right decisions; the importance of staying true to His Path and always, always listening to His Voice, no matter how quiet it may be...because the alternative may be disastrous..  

Overall, I would rate this book as a 3 Star.. The title and graphics were excellent and drew me in.  I thought the overall storyline was interesting with its twists and turns, however, I did find it quite dark (as the title states..lol), and when the main character suddenly died, the storyline never returned to his two friends trapped in his home or the community that he had been the mayor of. I found the sentences and phrasing in the first several chapters rather awkward to read and a little repetitive though it seemed to smooth out as the book went along. It did portray Christianity in the sense that it focused on the dark side when you make the wrong choices and in the very end the second main character chose the Light and the Tree of Hope

I'm sorry to have to give such a poor rating to Encountering Darkness, because I sense the author is excited about writing. The cover and the back copy were nice, but unfortunately there was little plot to the story. Also, it was difficult to read due to the author changing tenses frequently, sometimes within the same sentence.

One good thing I can say, however: I did not find a single misspelling or misused homophone, which is pretty unusual (in my experience) for someone who has trouble with grammar. So, thumbs up on the spelling.
