I loved this book so much! The slightly forbidden romance, the suspensions, the tails, and Rick's camp (which I would have loved to see more of) was wonderful. The only thing lacking was spiritual content there were mentions of prayer/praying/asking for prayer but that was all and it was light. There were dark points in the story but for a suspense it wasn't too dark/scary/nerve racking which was nice.

Recommendation: 16 up for topics covered in this novel.

Another fantastic fast-paced and adrenaline-laced romantic suspense from Irene Hannon! The author always delivers intense action and high-level suspense in a well-written story with a believable and detailed plot, propelled by swoon-worthy heroes and noteworthy heroines; this book is no exception. The author also gives the villain a voice in the plot, which truly masks who the villain is until the very end (I love how she does that!). This book is the finale of the Code of Honor series but you don’t need to have read the first two books to enjoy this one. I did appreciate the cameo appearances of the characters from the first two books, though, as well as the lovable characters from Private Justice series (if you haven’t read those, you must read them).

Rick, a former army helicopter pilot turned camp owner, is loyal, protective, honest, tender, and trustworthy. When he comes in contact with mysterious clues left by an old army buddy, he hires a private investigator group to help find his friend. Heather is a former St. Louis detective who has decided to slow down her career by joining a premier PI group, all made up of former military and law enforcement. She’s thorough, dedicated, sweet, and loving....and, of course, sparks fly from their initial encounter. The clues they gather turn strange, mysterious, confusing, and quite nefarious as multiple suspects become implicated in a deliciously complex plot. If you enjoy a heart-pounding romantic suspense (from the romance AND the suspense), you will absolutely love this book and the series.

Dark Ambitions is the third book in the Code of Honor series by Irene Hannon and a very polished suspense novel.

Every time I crack open an Irene Hannon book it seems like I’ve come home. Not only because I lived in St. Louis for twenty years and know the setting well, but because I am very comfortable with the exemplary way Ms. Hannon writes. She captures the genre well. Her stories are exciting but totally believable, and the romance sizzles beneath the surface. The research into law enforcement procedures shines. Her descriptions of an icy winter day in St. Louis took me right back to when I lived there.

The story was so riveting, I read it in just over a day. I am never disappointed in a book by Ms. Hannon. She writes the most caring, upstanding heroes. I love the way her books interconnect but still can stand alone. She shows how colleagues can work together seamlessly, be people of character, and rely on God.

"There was blood on the ice."

When former Army Night Stalker Rick Jordan finds evidence that human blood has been spilled on his rural Missouri property, his instincts go on high alert. After careful reconnaissance, he knows exactly who made him a surprise visit, but obviously something went terribly awry. 

Soon after Rick Jordan hires private investigator Heather Shields to locate his missing friend, several coincidences appear to intersect; making the case much more difficult to solve and much more dangerous to pursue. Someone out there has dark ambitions, and is more than willing to kill anyone who gets in their way.

"All we can do is make the best choice we're capable of with the information we have in the present. . . . . and sometimes we make mistakes."

The strength of this story is in its ending, which the author spins perfectly out of control. Fans of high octane romantic suspense will enjoy every bend and twist of this riveting conclusion to the "Code of Honor" series.
