Book provided courtesy of Baker Publishing Reviewer: Crystal P. I really liked the mystery! It was super interesting and intriguing. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat! I never would’ve guessed that important piece of information about the villain, which I will not spoil here. Trish was a likeable character, along with Colin… but their romance was thrown at me at the beginning. It was actually almost the top main focus in the book, other than the mystery, and I wasn’t expecting that. I mean, I knew the romance was a part of the story, from reading the back cover, but I didn’t think it was the focus of the book. The romance bugged me, but I was super pleased that the kisses weren’t detailed. Craig’s scenes were not good, especially a first half of a chapter about him. Craig was at a bar and met a young lady. He went to her house… and yeah it was kind of a dirty scene although it didn’t describe any bed scenes, it is still considered dirty in my opinion. I remember at some point he notices her curves.. Anyways, I didn’t see the point of that chapter until later in the book. I as very disappointed with the epilogue… this is going to be a spoiler. Colin proposed to Trish after a few months of dating. He said he can’t go another night wishing she was there next to him. Totally not biblical, considering he wasn’t a Christian, at least from what I’ve seen so far at the end, and that they have not been dating that long. I suppose people have different morals though. I actually didn’t see that much that made the book “Christian”. Here or there, there would be mentions of Trish thinking of a verse or times when she was praying (once or twice Colin would think about God/pray), but it wasn’t really that deep. Not that I wanted the book to be preachy or anything, but I thought Christian books were supposed to have Christian themes weaved into the story. I personally didn’t see anything like that. I have to admit the mystery was the only thing that kept me reading. I’d be willing to read more by this author in the future, but I’ll make sure to research any book by her a bit further next time. Content warnings: romance (semi-detailed kisses, remarks about each other such as: “I’m hot” “You certainly are”, mentions of sexual temptation and almost succumbing to it); death/murder (a bit descriptive about a dead body). "They were acting like she was a suspect". As if her life could get any worse, Trish Bailey is grief stricken when it appears that her mother has died of an incorrect drug dosage which Trish had been responsible for administering. Following protocol, Detective Colin Flynn, must ask the lovely young widow some awkward questions while instinctively assessing whether or not she had motive or opportunity to inflict mortal harm. The man accompanying Trish upon discovery of the body, the family's accountant Matt Parker, seems to insinuate that Trish had been unusually stressed and distracted over the constant care required for her mother. Colin Flynn is not so sure. Curiously, the case takes on a life of its own after Trish is assaulted and Matt's behavior turns uncharacteristically possessive. What began as an accidental death case swiftly morphs into an incident demanding full law enforcement scrutiny, thus stalling any personal feelings developing between Trish and the handsome detective Flynn. "Dangerous Illusions" captures the essence of suspense with abundant subterfuge and malevolent intentions. It's Irene Hannon at her best! I received a copy of this book from the publisher and any opinions stated above are entirely my own. Book provided courtesy of Baker Publishing. Reviewer: Kelly Potts A sign of a good book is when you can’t put it down. I couldn’t stop reading this one. Great twists and turns and an “Ah-ha” moment. Trish’s deep trust in God’s plan through a year of hurt and loss is remarkable. Love the characters and spent considerable time wondering who Hannon would write about in Book 2 of Code of Honor series. I do enjoy a clean ending, but this one seemed to go on a bit too long.
