Author: Lynette Eason Genre: Romantic Suspense/Mystery Series: Extreme Measures #2 Release Date: August 2, 2022 She's never lost a hostage. Surely she can manage to take care of her sister. FBI special agent Julianna Jameson is a top-notch negotiator, but when her much younger sister, Dottie, needs a place to live while she finishes high school, Julianna's skills will be put to the test. Former sniper Clay Fox left the army after a tragic incident that he can't get past. Until he can figure out what to do with the rest of his life, he's working as a resource officer at a school. Dottie's school. When Julianna is called in to negotiate a courtroom hostage situation involving Clay's sister, he's impressed--and, if he's honest, a bit intimidated--by the calm, capable woman with the dark hair and blue eyes, and invites her to speak at the school. But as the anniversary of a school shooting from Julianna's past approaches, it becomes clear that her perfect record is about to be tested and that Dottie is at risk. If Julianna and Clay can't figure out who's behind the attacks, more innocent people will die--and Dottie is next in line. Reviewer: Mindy Houng Every time I pick up a Lynette Eason book, I am amazed at the uniqueness of each one. This book is no exception. The premise of a hostage negotiator being pulled into an almost impossible situation is intriguing, as is the heroine herself. The story's hero is unusual because he's a school resource officer, which isn't typically featured in suspense novels involving law enforcement. Julianna and Clay are both loyal, dependable, and great at their jobs but also suffer from PTSD from their past. I enjoyed getting to know Dottie, Julianna's 18 yo sister, and Reese, Clay's younger sister. These secondary characters tied the plot together nicely and made all the suspense believable and real. Getting the perpetrator's first-person perspective was interesting, and the villain's identity is definitely surprising. Filled with fast-paced action and twists and turns in the plot, the book will keep you on the edge of your seat. The faith thread in the story is solid, and the romance between Julianna and Clay is just the right amount. Fans of romantic suspense will absolutely adore this story. Reviewer: Paula Shreckhise Intense drama as hostage negotiator Julianna comes up against her past, and she is not the only one in danger. The author paints a realistic picture of what a negotiator goes through. Julie is proud of her record of no hostages lost … until one criminal makes it personal. This story will have you turning page after page in anticipation and giving you whiplash with unexpected twists and turns. And just when you think it is over - wham! Another twist! Ms. Eason comes up with the best characters, so noble, capable, and vulnerable. Hero Clay Fox, a former Army Ranger, is a role model to teens at a high school. Seeing him organize an event to expose teens to various law enforcement careers was interesting. The faith element is consistent with Julie and her friends established as Christians. At the same time, some characters are portrayed as struggling in their faith. I like how Julie and Clay connect and the friendship that grows between their sisters. They each have a group of caring friends and colleagues. This injects some humor into an otherwise fierce situation. I have long been a fan of Lynette Eason, and this book solidifies my assessment. She writes non-stop exciting, well-written, and well-researched suspense. A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Revell through Interviews and Reviews. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own. Reviewer: Anna Bottoms Crossfire is another great addition to this series by Lynette Eason — one of my favorite Christian Suspense authors. Julianna and Clay come together when his sister is taken hostage, and Julianna is called to negotiate for the FBI. After the incident, Julianna has a target on her back, but who is stalking her? And why? She and Clay work together to find answers while they both have things in their past that hinder their future. As the danger ramps up, will they be able to find forgiveness and stay alive in the meantime? I love the budding relationship between Julianna and Clay—the pull of attraction, the doubts, the hopes—as they learn to trust God and each other. A truly exceptional story. I received a review copy courtesy of Revell through NetGalley and Interviews & Reviews. This is my honest opinion of the book. Leave a Reply. |
