![]() Author: Michelle Sass Aleckson Genre: Contemporary Romance Series: Deep Haven Collection #3 Release Date: May 25, 2021 The problem with being related to everyone in town is that there is no one left to date…until now. But will this outsider survive his family? Former soldier Veronica “Ronnie” Morales isn’t going to let her kid brother, Tiago, get pulled into the gangs of Minneapolis, so, seeking safety and a fresh start, she heads to sleepy Deep Haven on the north shore of Minnesota. She’s hoping to put down roots as the paramedic for the new Crisis Response Team, but it’s not easy to be the town outsider. Fire Chief Peter Dahlquist is a peacemaker—he has to be. After all, he’s related to both of the Deep Haven dynasties—the Zimmermans and the Dahlquists, Deep Haven’s version of the Hatfields and the McCoys. Worse, Peter is the holdout vote for a landmark project, which also makes him the loneliest guy in town when both families demand that he pick sides. The only one who seems to understand his plight is the newcomer in town…his pretty, street-tough paramedic. When Tiago finds himself caught up in small town shenanigans and the town blames Ronnie for tragedy, Peter is forced to pick sides. But will his choice cost him the home—and the woman—he loves? ![]() Reviewer: Miriam Young Susan May Warren has done it again!! Along with the introduction of the wonderful Michelle Sass Aleckson, this book is absolutely lovely. Peter and Veronica (Ronnie) are some of the most realistic and relatable characters I’ve ever encountered in my reading. I could NOT put this book down. I even found myself laughing out loud several times at their witty remarks. The storyline of hope, love, and just family and friends in this book is phenomenal. It makes you want to just jump into the pages and join in with the story. I can’t wait to read more books and get to know the Deep Haven community even more! This one was full of sadness and how God can turn it around and make it a positive. Peter was looking for love but being related to most of the people in Deep Haven his chances were slim until. Ronnie and her brother moved to town. Ronnie had to prove herself in this small town that was split two different ways. This an awesome read. I give it 5*. I was so excited to dive back again in the Deep Haven series, and I’m definitely not disappointed. This novel tells the story of Veronica and Peter and follows them on their journey to find the love of their life. Although Peter hopes his family will leave him alone and respect his own choices, they can't help but be very critical of a stranger in town. Especially after Peter makes it clear to them that Veronica is his girlfriend. But can Peter make sure everything works out so he can finally truly love her? And then there's Veronica's little brother Tiago. Although he has left the gangs of Minneapolis behind, it turns out that things aren't so safe in Deep Haven anymore either. Veronica, in the eyes of the Deep Haven residents, is to blame for this. Which side does Peter take in this? Does he choose his role as peacekeeper or does he want to support Veronica through everything? And what does Tiago think about this? It was very nice to meet old friends from the Deep Haven Series and the Christiansen family. The great thing about Susan May Warren is that she always has a (former) soldier, firefighter or someone with an active profession in her books. She also often has her stories take place in a small town. This combined with the fresh, new voice of Michelle Sass Aleckson makes this story definitely interesting and enjoyable to read. The nice thing is that despite being a contemporary romance, there is always a suspense element in Susan May Warren's books. Michelle did a great job of that as well. While this book does not have a strong faith element, it does ensure that good values are strongly emphasized. Giving people a second chance is part of this. All in all, Michelle has done an excellent job of writing a book that totally fits the Deep Haven Series. I am definitely looking forward to the next books in the Deep Haven Collection. This book is highly recommended for everyone who loves contemporary romance with a taste of suspense and action. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from Sunrise Publishing through Interviews & Reviews. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own. ![]() Reviewer: Mindy Houng "He wants us to experience life with Him inside us. He wants to carry us through the hardships. Join in our celebrations. Hold us when we're hurting." It's another worthwhile trip to Deep Haven with debut author Michelle Sass Aleckson. I'm a relative newbie to the town of Deep Haven so I was unaware of the simmering tension between the Dahlquist and Zimmerman families. Their squabble and misbehavior actually made Deep Haven feel more real and down-to-earth and not quite so Mayberry-like. Caught between the two families is Peter, a fire chief, city councilman, and biologically a Zimmerman and adopted as a Dahlquist. When Ronnie moves into town with her brother Tiago, their work in the Crisis Response Team draws them together and sparks fly from their first encounter. Peter reminded me a bit of Sam from Susie May Warren's Montana Rescue series and the overarching theme in this series of putting together a Crisis Response Team in their remote area was also reminiscent of the Montana Rescue series. Peter is dependable, loyal, steady, loving, devoted to family, and incredibly sweet and naive but also indecisive. I loved his peace-keeping soul and his desire to love everyone to his fullest capacity. He's definitely a hero on my 'keeper' list. Ronnie is headstrong, stubborn, blunt bordering on rude, but does have a soft heart underneath the armor she's built because of her past. Her prickly attitude and behavior wasn't endearing at first but she grew on me as the story unfolded. Peter's embodiment of God's unconditional love is pretty amazing. I really enjoyed seeing Cole, Megan, Adrian, and Ella from the first two books and fell in love with some of Peter's cousins whom I hope we will see more of soon. Fans of contemporary romance will absolutely love this book. I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own. ![]() Reviewer: Nora St. Laurent Ronnie and her brother Tiago are looking for a place they can call home. Ronnie is x-military and jumps at the chance to head up a Crisis Response Team in a cozy little town since she had medical CRT training as an army paramedic professional. Ronnie adored Deep Haven. It is beautiful, charming, and has a wide array of interesting townspeople. This opportunity was too much to hope for as Ronnie’s military ways rub some people the wrong way. She is a strong, opinionated, stubborn woman who knows what she wants and how to get things done. She is the right person to set up and train the volunteers for the new crisis response program. Paul and his cousin Vivien see that so how to convince the rest of the town? Ronnie and Tiago would soon discover there is no Utopia. People made bad choices and got in trouble no matter where they lived. Ronnie has her walls up around her heart, letting no one inside, as she believes the lie that strong people do not ask for help. Only weak people did that. She was not weak but living in this small town where everyone knows your name and business is changing things. She can see others cannot help but want to lighten her load. Ronnie was quickly finding out that life had more color and was richer with friends. I enjoyed reading how Ronnie fell in love with Peter and this quaint sweet town with its diversified cast of characters where most seem to be related to Peter, the Fire Chief. Peter was a peacemaker and had a gift that brings people together for the common good. Could he get Tiago and Ronnie to fit in? Help them want to be part of Deep Haven? I liked how the author naturally weaves a spiritual thread through the story as Ronnie learns to accept help from others. It brings everyone joy and builds a team spirit. I got caught up in it all as I teared up at the end. It surprised me. Loved that! I enjoyed Vivien’s summer play, a West Side story adapted for kids titled “West Side Toy Story." About two rival toy companies in N.Y. battle to be number one. It was fun to hear about this play and be part of the CRT team’s response to emergency calls. This was the third book in this series. I did not feel lost and enjoyed this fun read. I look forward to reading more novels by this author.
