Author: Melody Carlson Genre: Contemporary Romance Release Date: September 3, 2019 Krista Galloway is not a fan of Christmas. After her rough childhood in multiple foster homes, the holiday season just brings too many bad memories to the surface. But when she accepts a job as a city manager in the mountain town of Winter Hill, Washington, Christmas is part of the deal. The small town is famous for its Christmasville celebration, something that the city manager . . . well, manages. As she tries to make her tiny new apartment feel like home for her and her eight-year-old daughter, Emily, Krista begins to wonder if this move was a mistake. She doesn't always feel welcomed in the close-knit town, and Emily continually wonders, "Where's the snow?" Can a friendly stranger and his family help restore Krista's Christmas spirit before the big day? Reviewer: Gee Dixon This a very heartwarming Christmas story, as it definitely put me in the Christmas spirit. Krista is a single mom to Emily who is 8 years old. They move from Phoenix to a small town called Winter Hill. Emily writes an essay in hopes to win the Christmas House for her mom. This story is wonderful. I could not put it down. My review is my honest opinion. I received this book courtesy of Baker Publishing Group. Reviewer: Nicole Wegscheider Melody Carlson’s book, Christmas in Winter Hill reads like a movie. Single parent, Krista Galloway moves with her daughter, Emily from Phoenix to Winter Hill for a new job as a city manager. Krista and Emily are welcomed to the town by Conner Harris, a pleasant widower and single parent. Upon arrival, a Christmas House is being physically moved for a house makeover. At the annual Christmasville festival, an essay contest finalist will win the Christmas House. Krista’s daughter, Emily, prays to God requesting the Christmas House and she shares her prayer with her mother. Krista enjoys the company of Conner Harris. As the new city manager, she makes a series of discoveries — the entire town is passionate about the Christmasville festival except Winston Palmer, the account, the city hall building is unsafe for occupancy and two similar financial reports have different financial information. Investigations are initiated for both matters. Krista advises Mayor Barry of the financial discrepancy and the mayor prematurely approaches Winston regarding Krista’s financial discovery. Pandora’s box is opened as Winston makes false accusations against Krista, the town misinterprets Krista’s intention of the unsafe building report and the town questions a conflict of interest regarding Emily, the Christmas House essay finalist. As tension quickly unfolds, Krista keeps a low profile and she seriously considers leaving Winter Hill. This book reads likes a movie unfolding from the pages. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the layers of increasing issues and the discovery of the truth. It created fascinating intrigue. I would highly recommend reading this book and it would make a great gift. This book was provided courtesy of Baker Publishing. Reviewer: Susan Snodgrass I never miss one of Melody Carlson's Christmas tales. They are so good and hopeful. This time around a single mother and her eight year old daughter move from Phoenix to Washington state where the mom has a new job. It's nearing Christmas time and this town goes all out! Much to the mom's dismay. She has never had a good experience at Christmas time. Never. But what happens will bless you and restore her faith in Christmas again. Don't miss this wonderful little story. The book provided courtesy of Baker Publishing Group. Reviewer: Marta Aldrighetti Krista and eight-year-old Emily, after divorce, start a new life in Winter Hill with many challenges to solve: a new job and school, new colleagues and friends, new car, new flat to transform to home, and chilly and snowy weather. Emily is so eager to live there that Krista's bad thoughts and fear vanish. But she knows well that "Life inevitably held disappointments. It was inescapable". Funny Christmas story, lovely characters, excellent description, easy to read, original. Book was provided courtesy of Baker Publishing Group. |
