I was really interested in the plot of a woman in the late 1800’s trying to get into the medical field. However, I could not warm up to the main character Jennie. She was written with two personalities: a caring, godly woman who wanted to heal the ill, a woman quick to buy a scarf for the prostitute whom her husband frequented and gave cocaine to her son. But then the other personality was one that turned her back consistently on her son. I was surprised by her choice in a second marriage. I had thought - hoped it was all a ruse and she would fall for Josiah’s son. I just didn’t feel the love connection. In the end, I wholeheartedly agreed with the title. She left her sister, her son, her husband and daughters for her own needs. I could not warm up to the selfish woman portrayed. Book provided courtesy of Baker Publishing. Reviewer: Laura J. Davis If you read one book this year make it All She Left Behind by Jane Kirkpatrick. Based on a true story this is a book that will make you weep, get you angry, long for loved ones to be near, mourn those you've lost and get you thinking about doing all you can while you can with the life you've been given. Jennie Pickett took what life threw at her and tried to make the best of it. Her alcoholic husband didn't make that easy. I won't give you the rest of the story because to do so would take away from the emotions you will feel if I do. Suffice it to say that God always has a plan and can take the evil intentions of others and turn them into blessings we could never imagine. Jennie's story will inspire you. I was amazed that she was not a fictional character but did at one time walk this earth. And oh, my! What an impact she had on the lives around her. And what a blessing those lives were to her, who dared her to pursue her dreams. Read this book. You will not be disappointed! Book provided courtesy of Baker Publishing. Reviewer: Sabrina Wade What an emotional ride!! I've experienced sadness, anger, bitterness, hope, love, joy, and peace from the first page to the epilogue. Truly our lives are just the same as these characters in some form. All She Left Behind is every breathing women's story woven into various cloths. Desiring true love, a wholesome family, the ability to restore brokenness in and outside our home, to hope, to dream, and to fulfill. Just like Jennie, in all our doing, sometimes we forget to slow down, take care of ourselves and live in the moment. While there is still life in you, dream big and live life with both eyes open. This novel is worth reading!! Kirkpatrick, you have done a splendid job writing this novel. I know I'm not the only one who can relate to the characters, especially to Jennie.
