 Reviewer: Abigail Harder Lynette Eason does it again. Mrs. Eason, the queen of suspense, has flawlessly written yet another suspense novel that kept me on my toes the entire time. I was suspicious of multiple people throughout the novel who could have been the villain, but I never really gave much thought to who the actual bad guy ended up being. I honestly was hooked from the first page and I did not want to put this novel down. My mind was rushing throughout the whole novel trying to figure out who was behind all the murders, and how they all were connected. Not only was the plot and suspense thick, but the characters were absolutely lovable. I loved getting to know Sarah more in this book. I really liked her character in Collateral Danger and I was super excited for her book. Well, Mrs. Eason did not disappoint. I feel in love with her character from page one and my love for her grew. She was a kick-butt journalist that was not going to allow some bad guy(s) to stop her. I loved how we got to see all sides of her. Not only did we get to see her be kick-butt but we also got to see her more human side and that made me enjoy her as a character even more. Her character development was spot on and it was super enjoyable to watch her grow. Her partner, Gavin, was just as lovable, if not more. His humor literally made me laugh aloud multiple times throughout the book. His love and care for Sarah also made me love him so much. The way that he selflessly gave up his time to help and protect her made me so happy. I know that the romance in these novels is not super realistic, but they still are so sweet especially when the male lead is a sweetheart like Gavin. Overall, I loved this book so much. I wondered how some of the characters even had the stamina to keep going. But their lives depended on it, and to get to the bottom of the truth, they needed to. Sarah Denning is a military journalist and finds herself kidnapped in the Middle East. Not a very safe position to be in. However, as we get deeper into the story, that ends up just being the tip of the iceberg of the evil coming her way. This is a suspense, thriller, and mystery all rolled up into one fantastic story. Eason also has time to show the complicated father/daughter relationship between Sarah and her father, her love interest and bodyguard Gavin, her friendships, and grief that has rocked her world. Not too mention a very crazy and scary scenario of why so many people are harming themselves. I think my very favorite part of the story was what Sarah finally realizes at the very end. You see, to me, Sarah was not a really likable character. She was stubborn and rebellious and really took offense when there was none to be taken. Why? Well, that is the heart of this story. From the opener with Sarah kidnapped in Afghanistan to the ending scenes, this book doesn’t let up once. The mystery is an interesting one and the story builds nicely while getting pieces to the puzzle and then trying to figure out how they fit. I liked Gavin very much. This contemporary story opens in Greenville, South Carolina, and quickly switches over to a prison in Afghanistan. Sarah Denning is being held hostage along with a group of students from the school where she was a guest teacher. The remainder of the story is set in South Carolina and nearby locales. Throughout the book, there is an abundance of action as Sarah and her close-knit 'team' work to keep her safe and discover who is at the bottom of the plot to take her under their control. Sarah deeply desires to know the 'why' behind everything that happens. Readers will learn the reason behind this trait as they read the story. Strong protagonists include Gavin Black and Sarah's older brother, Caden Denning. Another essential character is Sarah and Caden's father, Lewis Denning. I appreciated the teamwork exhibited not only by the main characters but by the many other law enforcement and medical personnel that was essential to the unfolding of the story. The number of villains and villainesses in this story is plentiful. The pharmaceutical industry's dealings and practices are necessary to understanding the plot, and the author does a fine job of helping readers navigate the complexities of the drug industry as they relate to the plot. The themes of this story, in my view, are forgiveness, self-awareness, trust, and personal growth. As a reader, I thoroughly enjoy stories where even the 'good guys' are flawed at the beginning of the story. It's rewarding to me to see how these individuals grow and move forward in their faith through the obstacles and experiences placed in their path. In this way, the characters become realistic rather than being purely fictional. One of the main characters in this book experiences a complete transformation by letting go of past beliefs and vowing to move forward in faith toward a better life. The majority of references to the Christian faith are in the form of prayers sent up in times of crisis, and a few mentions to their personal faith by the main characters. The book is completely clean in language and content. I recommend this book for fans of Christian fiction, Christian romantic suspense, and Christian romance. The story picks up pretty much where book one ended. Sarah Denning, was being held hostage overseas and once rescued she is back in America. Her love interest Army Ranger Gavin Black helps her find the truth out about her brother's death. Her father who she calls "General" and her are estranged. Gavin helps put the pieces back together for her father and her. This book is full of suspense and inspiration. Lynette Eason does it again! Journalist Sarah Denning is held hostage by the Taliban and then sent home to recover after being shot in the rescue operation. At the same time, she finds out her brother has committed suicide, and it doesn't sit well with her. Former Army Ranger Gavin Black is sent to help keep her safe and home and work with her to find the truth. Acceptable Risk kept my interest from start to finish. The mystery in the book was interesting, and the relationships were intriguing. I sometimes didn't like Sarah's rebellious attitude, but I could understand it in the context of her life. I thought Gavin was a swoon-worthy caretaker for her. I appreciated the difficult conversations the couple had in this book. Even though it wasn't easy for Sarah, she made an effort to talk about her hard things with him. In return, he respected her enough to make an effort to understand her. The General was sort of a jerk, but in the end, I truly felt for him and could understand why he was the way he was. Acceptable Risk was mainly a clean read full of suspense, adventure, and a mystery to solve--all elements of a good read for me. There were snippets of faith elements but nothing preachy at all. I thought this cover was also well done--Sarah's personality from the story seems to come through in her face. Reviewer: Abigail Harris Wow, I highly appreciate this series from Lynette Eason! From the view of a Veteran's daughter, this series is so sad, but so needed! What I appreciate about this series is that Eason is showing the darker side of the military. Yet she is still showing them the respect that our military should be given. Suicide is a tough subject, especially veterans' suicide for me. In Acceptable Risk the topic is handled well for dealing with the issues it does. Sarah's growth of character was done naturally without any force in the writing style. I enjoyed Gavin's side of the story, though at first, I didn't like him too much. After a while he showed that he was growing. If you like suspense, I hope you will get a copy of Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason! Note: There is mention of past sins such as sleeping with guys, and there is mention of a professor who is buying sex. He is sent to jail, though. These are gritty stories that deal with hard but realistic issues. Be warned : PTSD, hostage situations and suicide are not easy to read about. The action seemed a mile-a-minute but it also seemed true to life. Gavin Black and Sarah Denning met in the Army in Afghanistan and dated a few times but things changed. They are reunited when Gavin rescues Sarah from a prison cell at the behest of her father, the General. They are soon caught up in a disturbing plot when they return to the States and spend time in a VA hospital. Can they uncover the criminal deeds before any more veterans suffer? Theirs is a journey to rely on God to help them get to the bottom of the nefarious events. It is also a journey of forgiveness for Sarah and her father. This story may be a bit raw but it moved at a fast pace and kept my attention. The heroine is strong, if opinionated and the hero is stalwart, sincere and patient while being a competent bodyguard. This can be read as a stand alone, although we meet a few characters from book one. I am really looking forward to reading the third book in the series. Lynette Eason is a favorite author. Cool characters, cool plot I mean what's not in this book for readers, not to love? I loved everything about this book. In my opinion, this is Lynette Eason's best yet, and you'll not be disappointed! I sure wasn't. Sarah and Gavin are excellent characters! Even the villains are well rounded out and made this story have a few sit on the edge of your seat moments. We also get to take a look at what PTSD might mean for our characters. I can't imagine what that must be like, and for those reasons alone, it makes me respect the Army folks even more! Whenever I see someone in our Army, I always like to say, "Thank you for your service" because we have no idea what they have seen and heard. So buckle up folks because you are going on a wild roller coaster ride, and you'll probably not put this book down until you are done. One thing I will tell you this book will leave you thinking, pondering, or whatever the case it. I just can't say enough about what a fabulous read this was! Oh my, I happily give this book five stars wishing I could give it more! I highly recommend this book.
