Davis I love it when I discover a new author! Jennifer A. Davids did not disappoint me and kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning. Dr. John Turner can't seem to forgive himself for things he did during the Civil War to save soldiers, but one death, in particular, caused him to step back from medicine altogether. When he inherits a title and an estate in England he sees it as his chance to start over. Penelope Howard has her own dark secrets that she has kept hidden for years, but that has not stopped her from exuding compassion for those who can't seem to forgive themselves. When she meets Dr. Turner, she sees a soul in need of redemption and love. While this might sound like an overly preachy book - it isn't. I loved how the author showed how everyone can be forgiven and that it is possible to start over. The strong theme of redemption and forgiveness will be a blessing to those who read this book, who struggle to forgive themselves. The love story between the two main characters, along with the added intrigue of the hidden secrets of a few more characters created a book that was a delight to read. I can't wait to read more by this author! Leave a Reply. |
