The author, Karen Whiting, truly lays out 52 weekly quick family devotions with activities, chat prompts, journal options and true Bible connections. There are many topics covered in this book from respect and honor, comfort, gratitude, our unique family and many others. This devotional is well organized and thought provoking. Bible truths shine through in every devotion. This is one of the best family devotionals I have had in my hands in a long time. This is a must have for every family looking to serve God together. Reviewer: Patricia Ann Timbrook It’s a situation with which many families–past and present– have tussled and still do: Christian Family Devotions. The “tussle” often happens through a “Why?” from the children, and answered with a “Because”, from the parents. Then, sometimes things go smoothly and the sessions go on. Yet, sometimes, they do not. But, hope and help are available for the frustrated parents, the disappointed grandparents, or for any others who have given up in their failed efforts. The solution might well be Karen Whiting’s nonfictional, 52 weekly Devotions for Families Called to Serve. From the preface, as well as throughout the entire 224 pages, the author credits dozens of men and women who have served, or are serving this nation, from first responders, to the military personnel, to law enforcers, to missionaries, and to volunteers. So, why is this so important in a “family” devotional book? The answer becomes clear from the balanced format of stories, scriptures, activities, question-and-answer sessions, and impromptus. Children will learn to value those who serve others, as well as to be challenged themselves to be servants. The 3 Ds of this book–(1)Devotions (plant seeds with how-tos), (2)Develop (nurture family relationships), and (3)Deliver (expect growth and maturity), may result in its becoming a most sought after juvenile devotional source. To that, Hallelujah. Your comment will be posted after it is approved.
