Nakita, welcome to Interviews & Reviews!

How long have you been writing?

Truly, I have been writing in some form or fashion all my life. I fondly remember getting excited whenever we would get into the genre of poetry or writing essays in grade school.  It’s always been a gift that the Good Lord has given me.  I’m just grateful that I now get to use these talents for the building of God’s kingdom!

Tell us about your book.

Jesus, Coffee, and Prayer is a 14- day devotional designed to edify, encourage, and promote an Attitude of Gratitude from my readers in all situations!  In the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced world, it’s so easy to go with the motions and lose sight of God’s splendor and goodness provided daily.  My hope is that my readers will reignite their desire to be grateful in a real and tangible way.

What inspired you to write this book?

The inspiration for Jesus, Coffee, and Prayer came from many different places.  Most importantly, inspiration came from my earnest desire to build a relationship not a religion with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Initially, I was simply journaling love notes and poetry to Jesus.  But shortly after, my writings morphed into intentional devotionals to help other Christians have an Attitude of Gratitude. I would be remiss if I didn’t say that the excitement surrounding the birth of my newborn and only son, was a close second for inspiration.

Is there a message in your book that you want your readers to grasp?

Absolutely!  Gratitude is never silent. Gratitude is an actionable word and requires movement.  Gratitude for all the Lord has done in our lives is the key ingredient to living with Peace and Joy- the world can’t take it away!

What is your favourite time of the day to write?

Good question- whenever I can get some peace and quiet (chuckles.) With a family of four, to include an active pre-teen, a curious and growing baby boy, and a flourishing ministry - needless to say, time is truly a valued commodity.  But, in all honesty, my best and most fruitful time for writing is at night. 3,4,5 in the morning is ideal, because all is still, all Is quiet. I can think and hear a clear word from the Lord.  I cherish these intimate moments to reflect, clear my mind and write. It’s quite freeing!

Is there something about you that most people don’t know?

Wow - that’s a loaded question! (Smiles) But seriously, a funny story is how my mother - rest her soul, chose my name.  Well back in the 80’s (I’m dating myself), my mother loved, loved, loved wrestling.  In specific, she loved a well-known Russian wrestler named Nikita Koloff.  Back then, he was known as the Russian nightmare (laughs.)  Long story short, my mother decided to name me after her favorite Russian wrestler! I recently did some research about a year ago and found out that Mr. Koloff became a born-again Christian and is now a Minister. (Sounds like somebody I know - minus the wrestling!)  Tip to parents, what you speak over your children, they may become! (Good job mom)

What a great story! So how were you saved?

My salvation was given by the precious blood of Jesus Christ!  He is my Lord and Savior and the source of my strength!  Specifically, I was saved and baptized in my youth, but like many teens and young adults, I strayed from his goodness. I put myself in direct line of fire and was on my way to the pit of Hell, but God!  Because he had and still has a purpose for my life, for his Glory, I stand here before you today!  His saving Grace brought me back into the fold and changed the trajectory of my being.  I am forever grateful because it could’ve been and should’ve been me dead in my grave…but God!

What is your favourite scripture verse and why?

You ask some really good questions!  I’d like to go on record for saying I LOVE the Bible!  It beats the hottest reality tv show any day, and I mean that in a sincere way!  Whoever said the Bible was boring, outdated, or doesn’t apply to them- clearly hasn’t been reading the Word!  It is filled with intrigue, life lessons, and the key to Life itself!  With that being said, it's hard to pick just one favorite.  But one scripture that resonates with me is found in Jeremiah 12:5.

“If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan?”

I love this scripture because, for me, I am encouraged to run a good race for the Lord… not worry about mere mortals and to keep my eye on the prize- Jesus Christ!  Whenever, I feel week, less than, or ready to throw myself a pity party, I am reminded to be strong in Jesus Christ!

That's awesome! If you are interested in starting a new devotional, Minister Nakita would like to give away a digital copy of her book to one lucky individual. Just fill out the form below to enter to win!
