What inspired you to write this book?

I love telling people about this – the inspiration came from my friend’s conversion to Christianity. As a new believer, she would often ask me questions about her new life in Christ, and I found myself offering her some suggestions and insights on many aspects of this new life. As this continued, I realized many things; however, one central thing I noticed was when I became a Christian, I had these same questions but no one to guide me through them. So, we kind of were talking one day, and it just came to us that if she and I felt this way and had similar experiences, how many more Christians have felt or are feeling this way too? So, we sought to help as many people as possible through this book.

Is there a message that you want your readers to grasp?

I want readers of the book to grasp a couple of things. First, it is normal to not know your next steps as a new Christian. It’s a brand-new life – a brand new way of living than our old lives, so it’s okay not to know. Second, it is important to have a Biblical foundation to build on. I see or hear many Christians nowadays that believe wholeheartedly in things that the Bible specifically speaks against, or they don’t practice things which God teaches and commands us to do. So, while it is normal not to have those answers initially, I hope this book will give people an understanding of what is expected from God and the reasons why.

This sounds like the kind of book churches need to have on hand for new believers. How were you saved?

I was 11 years old at a week-long Christian summer camp where I was having the worst summer ever initially. I did not want to be there, and I made that quite known. On the very last night of camp, all the children’s parents were there, and I was ready to go home. Yet, before they released us to our parents, they gave an altar call. I remember just being moved by the words that were said (namely, Jesus loved me and died for me), and it felt like someone was pounding on my chest. I didn’t know what I was doing or what I should be doing with all that was going on at that moment. However, I decided to just respond to the call, and I haven’t been the same since. I share more of my salvation story in What Do I Do Now?

God was not going to let you go home without meeting Him first! I love that! What is your favourite Scripture verse, and why?

Hebrews 11:1 is my favorite verse because it gives a clear definition and explanation of what faith is about. I often refer back to this verse because as seasons change in our lives, having true faith and trust in God is what gets me through.

When is your next book due out, and can you tell us about it?

I cannot tell too much about it as it is still being developed; however, I am currently working on writing about the journey of faith. I do not know when the next book will be coming out just yet. It is still in its infancy stage. However, I would hope that sometime in 2023, the book will be done or close to it.

What authors have inspired you?

Mary Pope Osborne, the author of Magic Tree House. She inspired me while I was still in elementary school to explore my imagination and embrace creativity. Her books took me on a journey, and I loved where I went there in my imagination. Her books gave me the motivation to start writing short stories, poems, letters, and songs.

Which do you enjoy more – reading or writing?

I enjoy writing a lot. I have so many ideas and thoughts running around in my head that whether I am jotting down a note or writing a blog post, I am having a blast writing.

What is the hardest thing about writing for you?

The hardest part for me about writing is knowing when to end the book. As a person who is passionate about people learning and growing authentically, I never feel like the project is finished. I often must lean on my friend and ministry partner to be honest with me.

It's good to have someone to lean on. Thank you for sharing with us today.

Adanna Ora for Readers' Favorite says, "What Do I Do Now? would be of great assistance to young and developing believers. It can also be used by church ministries for their foundational classes. It is encouraging to see books like this that would help improve one’s spiritual life. Christians would find this book priceless."

What do I do now? Many new believers are faced with this question, and rightfully so. The purpose of this book is to give a foundation on the fundamentals of living your life in Christ and see new believers excel in their new life in Christ.
