Today, I am pleased to welcome author Karen Carr to Interviews & Reviews. Karen lives in Mason City, IA where she retired from the local hospital after 32 years. Before that, she was a partner in a family farm operation. She has 3 children’s books (2 more in the process) published. Karen has also published a cozy mystery/romance, several short stories in anthologies, and several poems. Karen, welcome to Interviews & Reviews! How many books have you written? I have 3 children’s picture books, Littlest Penguin, My Hot Air Balloon & The Many Hats of Jeremiah Porter; a cozy mystery/romance, Mystery at Burr Oak: A Dog Named Wang; and my recent historical Christian fiction, A Safe Haven for Beth. That's quite a wide genre to write in. Do you travel to the places you write about? I did for this historical book. I went to Nebraska & Wyoming to get facts about the wagon train & stagecoaches. What inspired you to write this book? I have always enjoyed reading about the West and Janette Oke’s Canadian West books fit that bill. I wanted to write about our West with a Christian point of view. Is there a message in your book that you want your readers to grasp? Yes, that no matter how bleak things may seem now, God really does care for us and He knows what our future holds. Do you have any other books in the works? I am working on #2 in the Safe Haven series, Thad. #3 Ben, and #4 White Barn Inn. Also 2 picture books, What’s that Strange Noise (written with my 5 yr old granddaughter, and A Daisy for Sarah. How were you saved? When I was 15, I went to a Youth meeting where a film was shown in which a teen was killed in a car accident. I related to the girl who didn’t think she would go to heaven if that happened to her. I trusted Christ that night. What books do you enjoy reading? Mysteries are my first love, but I also read historical Christian fiction. What authors have inspired your own writing? Janette Oke and Karen Kingsberry are authors I admire. If my writing would be considered to resemble their writings, I would be happy. Thank you for stopping by today Karen.
