Well, I have been writing since I was a preteen, but I really became serious when I was in my 40s. Yes, it was a long process for me. I have journaled my whole life, but to write my first book was truly a press from God himself. I Am Leah, my first book, was about low self-esteem within a family that stops us from living out our true destiny with God. This book was difficult, but I had to overcome my low self-esteem issues to help others. It was a journey of looking back and remembering some hurtful actions and words toward me. I learned that my words bring death or life to me, not what others say. How many books have you written? I have the joy of writing 6 books on my own and 1 collaboration. Their titles are the following:
My new book is The IN Word. My Collaboration with Pastor Paulette Harper and 20 other authors, which became a best-selling book in 9 categories on Amazon, was entitled For Such A Time As This. What is the hardest thing about writing for you? I know that this is going to sound crazy, but writing. I am a writer that struggles, and I own that. I love the stories, and I love when people say that my books have helped them but writing them is hard. I always go through something major when I decide to write. I have a trial or a family issue that will take me out of the writing process. I hope that as my work and life change in the direction I desire, the writing will get easier. What inspired you to write this book? I wrote The IN Word because I believe that we as Christians have either lost our way or, worse, been misled the wrong way in our walks with God. I returned to my evangelist roots to tell my brothers and sisters to come back into the Tabernacle of God. We do not need to reconstruct our religion. We need to build a relationship with the Godhead. Most of us fall out of love with God because of trauma within the church. We hold God accountable for flesh when we need to worship God in spirit and truth. Amen! I totally agree. Is there a message in your book that you want your readers to grasp? That they can't make it to heaven if earth is where you want to live. We can't want to be free but have Lot's wife mindset, always looking back. We must daily renew our minds and move forward with the plans of God for our lives. How were you saved? I was saved the first time by a tract a woman gave me when I was at a bus stop. But my conversion was 16 years ago when Hurricane Katrina happened. I was home and a Muslim at the time. I was flipping through the TV and came upon the Word Network and T.D. Jakes was on. I didn't know him at the time, but when he said Yolanda Adams was going to sing Amazing Grace, I had to watch. She started singing, and I don't know when it happened, but I was on my hands and knees crying my soul out. Then I heard God ask, "Who are you going to serve now?" And I said, "You." He said, "If you leave again, you may not make it back." I have been back and will never leave again. Is there anything you would like to say to your readers? I hope what I have written will make you think about your personal relationship with God. I can't be there for everyone, but my books can be a beautiful way for you to know how much I care about your soul and your life as you live here. It is not an easy walk, but it is a journey of truth and faith that can bring you joy and peace if you just trust God. What is your favourite Scripture verse, and why? Proverbs 3:5-6. I believe in those 2 verses wholeheartedly. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not into thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path." These words are life right here. They are a perfect example of the who, what, when, how, and why of salvation. When we trust God, life gets easier. We must stop fighting the process and learn to enjoy the journey. I was a rebellious child to God when I first started my salvation walk, so I know a little about fighting God. I did that. Now I just rest no matter the situation. He knows my end, so I just trust him with me. Thank you for your honesty Cynthia and for sharing with us today.
