Ashley Frerking Interview

Picture
Today I am pleased to welcome author Ashley Frerking to Interviews & Reviews. Ashley was Born in Fort Worth, TX, raised in Nairobi, Kenya and is currently residing in Grand Prairie, TX. She went to high school at Rosslyn Academy and graduated with her undergrad in English and History from Dallas Baptist University. She is planning to graduate with Masters in Script writing in December 2018. Today she is here to talk about her Fantasy book Myrwen of Amaranaca.

Welcome Ashley!

How many books have you written?

So far, just the one, but I’m planning to write an entire series called the Lineage Series with Mỹrwen of Amaranaca being the first! Each book will feature a descendant of Mỹrwen’s. I’m thinking there will be around five books altogether.

What is your latest book about?

Mỹrwen of Amaranaca is a Young Adult fantasy, coming of age story about a young woman named Melinda. Without giving too much away, she is whisked away to another land and learns that she is not who she grew up believing.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

My advice would be to not give up. Everyone has a book in them but the majority of people lack the motivation to see it through. I urge aspiring writers to see their dream through to the end.

What books do you enjoy reading?

I really love fantasy and historical fiction. One of my favorite fantasy series is The Lord of the Rings. In terms of historical fiction, I love anything Conn Iggulden writes.

What are your favourite types of movies?

Similar to the types of books I enjoy, I love fantasy films as well as historical ones. I’m also a big fan of the Marvel movies!

Who isn't? What is your favourite Scripture verse and why?

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-9). This is one of my favorite Scriptures because it takes about how generous God is with his children. Also it reminds me that God is a God who wants to be found, and those who seek him, find him.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?

I’ve been working on the sequel to Mỹrwen and its working title is Tura the Traveler. My hope is to have it published this year, either on or before October 10 since that is the anniversary of Mỹrwen’s release last year. This sequel takes place several generations after Mỹrwen and follows Tura’s journey as she seeks to avenge her family.

What authors have inspired your own writing?

Two men stand out above the rest when it comes to my inspirations: C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Both men were extraordinary world-builders and imaginative. They also demonstrate the ability to portray Christian themes without being extremely overt.

Excellent choices! Thank you for visiting with us today. If you would like to keep in touch with Ashley, visit her website at

Mỹrwen of Amaranaca tells of a young woman’s courage and kind heart as she fulfills her destiny.

As a child Melinda was always sick; she spends as much time in the hospital as out; friends are nonexistent.

One day a boy by the name of Nathan shows up and turns her life upside-down. Can it be true—is she from another world? Not just that, but royalty?

Join Melinda as she morphs into Mỹrwen and takes the biggest adventure possible.

Will she save Amaranaca or die trying?
