I have a book that I bought many years ago when I first began my writing journey. It is Ethel Herr's book An Introduction to Christian Writing. It's a great book and one I encourage new writers to pick up. I'd like to share with you a few of the points she brought out in her first chapter about writers who are Christian and what their responsibilities are:
The author sums up what a Christian writer is with these four principles:
So, what do you think? When you are writing are you thinking about any of the points above? Would these help you as a writer? You can purchase Ethel's book here. 6/26/2017 11:36:28 pm
Thanks so much for this helpful article! I hadn't heard of this book, the principles you mentioned above are a great reminder of the fact that works of excellence take time, persistence and prayer. This especially resonates with me: "Art is a reflection of self-expression, a gift of God that we share from our hearts to bring encouragement, beauty and pleasure to our readers and to God."

Thank you so much for mentioning Ethel Herr's wonderful book! I had the great honor and privilege of meeting Mrs. Herr at a writers' conference years ago. When I told her I wanted to write fiction, she encouraged me to trust God and move forward in His plan, noting that, as I did so, His will would prevail. And it has! By God's grace, I have written two published novellas and three published novels. I am so thankful that God placed Ethel Herr in my path to encourage me at a time when I needed encouragement.
