Reviewer: Diana Lea Women of the Bible in 52 Weeks: A Year-Long Bible Study for Women by Ginny Mossman is a thoughtful, approachable study that brings both familiar and lesser-known women of Scripture into fresh focus. Rather than simply revisiting stories many readers already know, it invites women to consider God’s character, His purposes, and how biblical truth can move from head knowledge into everyday faith. Each week centers on a woman from the Bible and includes: • A summary of her story and the Scripture passage connected to it • Guided Bible reading • Questions that examine the commands, choices, and actions within the story • Opportunities to consider God’s hand and ultimate purpose in the circumstances • Personal reflection, whether through looking back at past experiences or considering how to apply the lesson in a future situation • A closing prayer The structure is easy to follow while still allowing space for meaningful reflection. It would work well for personal study, but the questions could also lead to valuable discussion in a women’s small group. I especially appreciated the repeated reminders of who I am in Christ and the focus on God’s character. Some weeks explore attributes of God and challenge us to consider what it would look like to truly recognize those qualities and live as though they are true. Other weeks address the fears, limitations, regrets, or difficult circumstances that can shape our responses—and point back to the ways God reveals Himself in those moments. This would be a particularly timely study for women who are: • Walking through a season of change • Looking for renewed purpose or direction • Struggling with lost joy • Carrying regret about past choices • Needing reassurance that God can use flawed vessels • Ready to move beyond knowing Bible stories intellectually and toward understanding the heart and hope within them. For me, this study helped take truths I already knew in my head and press them more deeply into my heart. I really appreciated the gentle nudge to look at these women from a new viewpoint. Highly recommend. My thanks to the author for the complimentary review copy that I received via Interview and Reviews. Leave a Reply. |
