When an avalanche strands their ski group in an abandoned lodge, it becomes chillingly clear that Cassandra's stalker has followed her . . . and he's willing to kill to make her his. In Snowbound Secrets by Lynette Eason, Dr. Maya Sullivan fully intends to escape her past and finish planning a retreat for military veterans at the ranch she's inherited. Unfortunately, her plans go sideways when an avalanche traps her in a Colorado ski resort. An unexpected reunion with her high school crush forces her to confront past wounds, but she soon realizes someone is targeting her, and their search for a shadowy enemy becomes a matter of life and death. Reviewer: Laura Thomas Two wonderful winter novellas by two of my favorite Christian romantic suspense authors? Yes, please. Both of these stories had me gripped from the start, largely due to an avalanche (a new fear I now have!) trapping everyone at a Colorado ski resort. In Dani Pettrey’s “Buried in Shadows”, Cassandra Parker is at the resort to celebrate her best friend’s destination wedding, along with a group of other friends and work acquaintances—including her ex-fiance, Sheriff Joel Brunswick. She has been plagued by a stalker for the past year and hopes this will be an opportunity to finally relax and put the unnerving business behind her. When the wedding party embarks upon a fun skiing expedition, an avalanche traps them all, and they are forced to take refuge in an abandoned lodge—where they are definitely not safe! In “Snowbound Secrets” by Lynette Eason, the same avalanche means Dr. Maya Sullivan is also trapped on the other side of the resort, where her medical skills are put to use and she also runs into her old high school crush, Gideon. Rather than focusing on making plans for her retreat for military veterans, she soon realizes she is being targeted—and now both their lives are in danger. These novellas are fast, page-turning reads with a chilling, snowy setting and delightful slow-burn romances. I received a complimentary copy from Bethany House Publishers through Interviews & Reviews and NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Reviewer: Carolyn Bryant This book is a double dose of top-notch inspirational romantic suspense! Both masterfully crafted novellas hooked me early and kept me flying through the pages--immersed in the action, emotion, and setting. Although the action-packed, suspenseful stories have a shared setting and each has a deranged killer on the loose, the story lines are unique and equally captivating. Both feature fast-paced plots filled with unexpected twists, compelling characters who are easy to root for, richly painted whiteout settings that intensify the suspense and danger, sweet romance, and inspiring faith threads. I totally enjoyed this novella collection from two of my favorite authors and recommend it as a must read for Christian Romantic Suspense fans! I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers through Interviews & Reviews via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Reviewer: Mindy Houng Whiteout is a collection of two novellas - one by Dani Pettrey called Buried in Shadows and another by Lynette Eason called Snowbound Secrets. Buried in Shadows by Dani Pettrey was an intense mountaintop ski adventure with plenty of suspense. When a wedding party goes heli-skiing on an untouched side of the mountain, a stalker with deadly intent follows Cassie and her ex-fiancé Joel. An avalanche and trying to outsmart the murderer and stormy conditions made the plot fast-paced. The villain, who had a first-person voice in the story, was difficult to guess. I wish it had been a full-length novel; that way, I could have gotten to know Cassie and Joel better. There were many characters in the wedding party so it was difficult to keep them all straight, especially when murders started happening. It was an enjoyable story overall, though I did get confused at times when backstories among the characters of the wedding party left me feeling like I missed something. Snowbound Secrets by Lynette Eason took place at the same ski resort as the first novella but followed Maya and Gideon, stranded at the resort after the avalanche. Childhood friends with crushes on each other, unbeknownst to the other party, Maya and Gideon take their time getting to know each other again until someone tries to kill Maya and that accelerates their relationship. Maya and Gideon were army veterans and battled PTSD throughout the story. They both had emotional baggage which seemed a bit too deep and intense to fully flesh out in a novella. The dialogue felt somewhat stilted and their heart-to-heart sharing sounded more like detached factual recounting of traumatic events than true emotional connection. The villain was easy to spot but the reasoning behind the attempted murders was a surprise. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Bethany House via Interviews & Reviews and NetGalley.
