The Happiness of Bluebirds (a story collection companion to the two sparrows for a penny series) by Sara Davison is such a cozy, but heavy at times read. From the very first story, this book draws the reader to lean into it. I did not see what was coming from the first story, but it made sense when it was revealed.

These stories are so precious, and they are sure to resonate with just about every reader in some way or another. They will certainly remind us of the God who is a good Father and Savior. These stories remind us too that we must forgive, even when we do not feel people deserve it, that when we did not and may not at other times do not deserve it, yet our heavenly Father forgave and forgives us every single time we ask. This forgiveness is even for our own selves, which is also seen on the pages of this book in the stories that unfold.

I think there will be a little bit of something for everyone here in this beautifully written collection of stories. I have read several books by Sara Davison, and I have enjoyed every one of them. They deal with many life questions and issues, but one thing the stories convey throughout the book is that our heavenly Father is always there, no matter what we may think or feel. Pick this gem up at your earliest chance.

I have read several of Sara Davison’s novels and have loved her thrillers. In fact, I’ve recommended them to a number of people. 

So when I opened this book and saw that her novellas aren’t thrillers, I was shocked. I had no idea. I also didn’t realize I’d be reading Christmas novellas in June, which, as a die-hard seasonal reader, I didn’t love. 

Ironically enough, the first 2 novellas, which were Christmas, were my 2 favorites. The first was a little slow, but would be a great read at Christmas. The 2nd one, a Jonah retelling, was well done. 

After those, though, I didn’t love them. They felt cliché, and I don’t care for books that paint the fathers as evil and selfish while the mothers are portrayed as saints. 

This book of novellas just wasn’t my cup of tea.
