Author: Lynette Eason
Genre: Thriller Suspense
Series: Lake City Heroes #2
Pages: 304
Release Date: August 20, 2024
Publisher: Revell

Tough-as-nails Kenzie King has finally earned her place as a tactical medic on a SWAT team. But not everyone on the all-male team accepts her. Rumor is, she didn't get the position because of what she could do but because of who she knew. Which means she has to work harder and longer than anyone else to prove herself.

Cole Garrison is a man with deep faith who is finally ready to settle down and build a family of his own--if he can find the right person, that is. Kenzie sure has set off his interest meter, but trouble seems to follow in her wake. Since she joined the team, someone has begun to ambush and pick off team members, one by one.

It's all hands on deck to discover the culprit and end the killing. Can Kenzie and Cole put aside their differences and work together as a team? Or will their budding attraction be snuffed out by a sniper's bullet?

This was quite a tension-filled read. A lot was going on and I really enjoyed the whole arc of the story. This deals with the present day and the dangers the SWAT team faces, but there is actually a bit of a glimpse back to the year 1947 in a mental hospital. There we see how our two main characters’ families are connected and a bit of the history there. Though that wasn’t a lot, and it was not the main focus, that little story fascinated me.

Kenzie King is the only female on the SWAT team, and she is their acting medic. There was a lot of workplace drama that was taking place. The author does a very good job of showing both sides of the situation, man and woman, their individual strengths and weaknesses. This added to Kenzie’s stress on top of the fact that someone seemed to be intentionally trying to kill her.

Cole is her supervisor and is trying very hard not to fall head over heels for her. He is also trying to treat her like he would everybody else on the team, but with her, he is extra protective. Danger continues to amplify as each member seems to be in the crosshair and other secrets come to the surface. This was an intense read and so very hard to put down.

Target Acquired has to be one of my favorite Lynette Eason books.

The mystery and story plot was so good and very well thought out, I just feel like the book could have been pulled out a little longer. I was bummed it was resolved so easily, after all the drama that had taken place.

When I started reading it, I was immediately obsessed with Cole. I was so disappointed when he started giving her mixed signals, like okay we get it, you had a traumatic relationship once, get over it, dude. She didn’t deserve that.

It had aspects of God in it, but He didn’t seem to be too important to any of the characters.

I did like the way Lynette Eason created their personalities. It was very well thought out, and I could feel like they were real, as with the dialogue. Overall, the book was very well written, and I would recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell through Interviews and Reviews. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.

"You catch more flies with honey, sweetheart. Remember that."

Did her grandmother really know what she was talking about, because Kenzie King was having a difficult time navigating the waters of being the only female on her SWAT team with any measure of decorum. She was extremely qualified to be a tactical medic, Kenzie's law enforcement skills were accompanied by an M. D. which in itself should have earned respect, but still there was that one loud voice above all others who questioned her very presence.

"Beautiful Kenzie King, who took his breath away and pulled all his protective instincts to the surface."

SWAT team leader Cole Garrison was conflicted about his feelings for Kenzie, he was way past the point of ignoring the way he felt, but for the sake of team unity Cole intentionally compartmentalized them on a regular basis. Then she became a target of someone else's deadly ire, putting not only her life, but the lives of his entire team in danger.

What did I love most about this particular romantic suspense? The plotting was extraordinary. Strategically placed snippets of family history interrupted the chapter flow, providing an eerie backdrop that tip-toed in and out of relevancy to the characters' present circumstances. That being said, you could practically reach out and touch the unspoken chemistry between Cole and Kenzie; begging to be recognized and yet careful not to breach boundaries, until the deal was sealed. I loved it!

I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishers through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.

Ms. Eason continues to shine in this suspense-filled offering, book two in the series Lake City Heroes.

Kenzie King has too many close calls for coincidence and knows someone has it in for her. She has ruffled a few feathers after securing the medic spot as the only female on the SWAT team. Team leader Cole Garrison tries to be fair to her without showing favoritism. But feelings begin to swirl between the two. Part of the plot involves a very cold case and family history. Very interesting.

Excitement abounds as the SWAT team goes out on a call and gets ambushed. Yet they try their hardest to ferret out the crafty culprit. I was almost done with the book and still did not figure out the bad guy! A great addition to the dramatic series.

This book has a little romance, family drama and faith-filled characters who support each other and have compassion for hurting people. Recommended for those who like to exercise their brain. A truly hard one to puzzle out.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Revell through Interviews & Reviews and via NetGalley. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are mine alone.

This is a wonderful series! I’ve enjoyed everything about this book.

This is a hard-to-put-down novel. I loved the fast-paced action and, of course, some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. And too, I really liked how Eason keeps us guessing all the way through! That was the fun part!

My favorite things were the heart-stopping moments that kept me engaged from page to page.

It’s why I love her stories!

There were some great characters too. I especially enjoyed getting to know Kenzie and Cole. Well, really the whole team.

All the characters were well rounded out nicely.

I’m giving this book 5 stars for a wonderful rollercoaster ride that kept my attention all the way through.

I also loved that this book had a little bit of grace added to it, too.

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Revell through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are mine.

Target Acquired is another action-packed romantic suspense that had me on the edge of my seat and reading long into the night.

Kenzie is determined to prove herself as a valuable member of the SWAT Team but so far she’s received a chilly reception. When she becomes a target she might find who her friends really are, or she might find someone is willing to take things a bit too far.

Cole is Kenzie’s supervisor and her brother Logan’s best friend. Though he’s known her for years he can’t help but be impressed with her dedication. When her life is threatened the aloof facade he’s kept at work begins to slip. He doesn’t want to cross a line, but he might have to.

This book draws a clear picture of the closeness of the men and women who must trust each other in a dangerous job, the diverse personalities who must work together, and the sense of community necessary to survive.

As with all of Lynette’s books, there’s a clear side story included throughout and a thread of faith that fits perfectly into the lives and circumstances surrounding the characters.

This great book was given to me courtesy of Revell. This is my honest opinion of the book.

My high expectations for this second book in the Lake City Heroes series were met and exceeded. This book features two expertly plotted storylines—one set in 1947 and the other in the present day. The historical storyline complements and adds depth to the main present-day storyline.

It was great to reconnect with the Lake City SWAT team and experience Kenzie and Cole’s story. The fast-paced, intensely suspenseful action kept me totally immersed and guessing! The characters are well-crafted and believable.

I love Kenzie and Cole as individuals and as a couple. I enjoyed how their sweet romantic relationship develops as they face danger from a killer and deal with Kenzie’s struggle to fit in with the SWAT team. I love this book and highly recommend it and the series. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series! Note: Although there are characters from the previous book that are carried over, this book can be read as a standalone.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“And just like that, his whole “I’m not trusting my heart to anyone ever again” vow scattered like ashes. Because he was falling for her.”

And had been for a while now."

This book was EPIC!!!

Target Acquired is the second book in the Lake City Heroes series, and this book features SWAT team medic Kenzie King and Detective Cole Garrison as the main characters.

It’s a great suspense read packed with tons of action, clean humor, and a plot that kept me on the edge of my seat to the last page.

There were only a couple minor words used that I don’t use but don’t consider to be a big deal (heck and dang used twice each).

The romance was sweet, clean, realistic and spice-free, which I seriously appreciate!

I really liked how it was paced too, slow burn and sincere instead of the cringy insta-love a lot of books feature but I don’t personally care for.

Y’all, this was a read I loved, and I absolutely recommend it! I plan to pick up a paperback copy for my suspense shelf as soon as I can.

Thank you to Revell Books for the complimentary e-book I received to review through Netgalley as part of the author’s launch team. I was not required to write a positive review, and the thoughts above are my own.
