Reviewer: Raechel Helwig Let me start this review by sharing the aspect I appreciated about this story the most: The faith message. It was important to the whole story and added such a meaningful perspective to the whole novel. I liked how the characters were not perfect in their faith, and they struggled with trusting God at times, but that is realistic. And they still came back to God. I just find that even Christian fiction nowadays lacks much of a Christian message, and so it is so refreshing to me when it is included in a story beyond just a brief mention of a character praying or something. Besides that, I enjoyed getting to know the characters and following along with the plot. There was plenty of suspense, and also romantic tension (without being too “spicy” as the new term goes), and I liked seeing how it all wove together. Some things I found a little repetitive of other books by this author, but it was still a good story. I do wish the end would’ve given just a little more of a wrap-up moment between the two main characters, Moose and Tillie, instead of jumping to Shep and London. Don’t get me wrong, I am interested in Shep and London’s story too! I just thought Moose and Tillie’s story ended just a little abruptly. One Last Promise is the third book in the Alaska Air One Rescue series - I admit I jumped right in with this one since I didn’t have time to catch up on the previous two. And while there are recurring characters and plots too, I’m sure, I didn’t struggle too much to get into this one or felt like I was missing out on huge plot points, etc. Oh, and I liked how Moose learned that he couldn’t make all the promises - and that is okay. Hopefully, I can catch up on the other books in this series soon! This book was provided courtesy of Revell through Interviews & Reviews. I was not required to write a positive review, and all thoughts expressed are entirely my own. Reviewer: Trinity Caver One Last Promise by Susan May Warren was an excellent read. This Christian Suspense Mystery will leave you wanting more by the page. It is full of faith references that will make you feel like you are living it out with the characters. Moose is the main male character of this book and he is the hero, but he has regrets from his past that tend to get in the way of what he really wants to do. However, he has forgotten that some of these situations were completely out of his control. The mistakes of his past really get to him, but he seems to forget that most, if not all of them were out of his control. When his favorite waitress, Tillie, who happens to be the main female character in this story, shows up beaten and bloody, he is angry at the person who did this to her. Tillie disappeared for some time and Moose did not know where she was, so when she shows up he is happy, but then he sees her in her beat up condition. Tillie had to go away to try to protect her daughter from her ex. Moose decides that he cannot sit on the sidelines, he must do something even if it will be very difficult. This story had more going on than appeared at first glance. More complex than it first appeared. It is a perfect blend of suspense and action/mystery with a romance that seems to be budding. Moose has no problem sharing his faith and trying to make Tillie realize that leaning on God will give her some measure of peace. This book is emotionally charged from beginning to end. The characters are very realistic and it seems that we can identify with them. I did not want the story to end. Go out and get this book. You will not be disappointed. I received a complimentary copy from Revell, through Interviews & Reviews, for my honest opinion. Reviewer: Conny Withay “But your promises are going to get you into trouble. You can’t save everyone. That’s not your job,” Moose is told in Susan May Warren’s novel, One Last Promise. The third book in the Alaska Air One Rescue series, this three-hundred-and-five-page paperback, targets those who like a Christian contemporary romance about being on a rescue team in the Alaska wilderness while learning about faith and trust. The topics of illness, fighting, injuries, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes a teaser of the next book in the series, a note to the reader, the author’s biography, and advertisements. In this third book in the series, team leader and chopper pilot Moose is at a loss when his favorite waitress, Tillie, abruptly leaves his small Alaskan town. But when she returns to his doorstep battered and bruised, he promises her that he will protect her, even if it means tracking down her kidnapped seven-year-old child. As the team steps up their game to find the little girl, both Moose and Tillie must learn to have faith in each other and trust God to direct their paths. This is a fast and furious read of a band of rescuers who are loyal and supportive to each other, no matter what the cost. I enjoyed the interaction between Moose and Tillie and how they confided and built a relationship around trust. The well-described, breathtaking Alaskan backwoods pops out of the pages. Some may not like a faith-based story that involves trusting God. Others may not care for the many characters, including those from other series. I found some parts corny and over-written, especially when house designs and decor were described. A couple of times, I wondered why Tillie didn’t mention missing her girl. Although there are prayers to God and quoted Bible verses, the author missed the perfect opportunity to give the eternal plan of salvation instead of repeatedly mentioning to simply have faith and trust God. I wish it included that one needs to admit they are a sinner, believe Jesus died on the cross for all sin, and confess He is Lord of your life. I prefer all pronouns of the Almighty capitalized for reverence. A list of characters would be helpful. If you are into a contemporary Christian romance series located mostly in Alaska, this is a promising story, but I, sadly, struggled with so much going on at the same time. Thanks to Revell and Interviews & Reviews for this complimentary book. I am under no obligation to give a positive review. Reviewer: Tammy Lunsford Moose is a hero in every sense of the word, but he is his own worst enemy. He has past regrets regarding promises that he feels he did not keep. However, he has forgotten that some of these situations were completely out of his control. He beats himself up daily. He is a protector and rescuer. It is in his blood. In his mind, failure is not an option. When his favorite waitress, Tillie, shows up beaten and bloody, he is livid at the person who did this to her. Tillie had disappeared for a period of time. She confesses that her ex has shown up to take her daughter. He put her friend in the hospital. Moose’s cape comes out. He is ready to take on the fight, regardless of how difficult it may be. This story was even more complex than it first appeared. There is a lot more below the surface that you will learn as you read. Tensions are high all around. It is a nearly perfect blend of suspense and action with a budding romance that will warm your heart. Moose has no problem sharing his faith and trying to make Tillie realize that leaning on God will give her some measure of peace. This entire book is an emotional landmine from start to finish, which is what Susan May Warren does best. The characters are more realistic because we get a glimpse of the good, bad and ugly side of each of them. I did not want the story to end. Now we must wait for the next installment as we are left with another cliffhanger. Thank you to Revell Books for this ARC through Interviews and Reviews. I am leaving this review voluntarily. Reviewer: Kristina Hall An exciting third installment in the Alaska Air One Rescue series! I've been looking forward to reading Moose and Tillie's story since I read the first book in the series. Both Moose and Tillie were sympathetic characters with complex backstories that added to the plot. I enjoyed reading about the characters from the previous books in the series and am intrigued about Shep and London's upcoming book. I'm glad this series is being released quickly. Plenty of high stakes, character development, romance, danger, and intrigue kept me reading right along. I appreciated that Susan May Warren kept both the romance and language clean, and the faith content added a nice touch. On a slightly picky note, I had a hard time picturing some of the action, but that very well could've been me. Overall, One Last Promise was an attention-grabbing read that I'd recommend to those who love Christian fiction, romance, and adventure stories. I received this book from Revell through Interviews & Reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. Reviewer: Mindy Houng “Trouble is always with us. It’s how we react in trouble that matters.” The unflappable and rock-solid Moose definitely gets unmoored in this book as he tries to protect Tillie and her daughter from dangerous thugs and law enforcement alike. It’s a wild ride through Alaska as Tillie and Hazel’s story unravels and Tillie gets in too deep with the tentacles from her past. Moose is so dependable, trustworthy, and protective to the core but also needs faith lessons and reminders from his little brother Axel as circumstances spin out of control. Tillie is one tough cookie and has all the credentials to take care of herself, but Moose’s tenderness and persistence dig under her armor to let love and vulnerability in. There is plenty of fast-paced action and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved the subplot between Shep and London and can’t wait to read their story next. Cameo appearances from the Kingston siblings were quite delightful throughout the book. I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Revell via Interviews and Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own. Reviewer: Anna Bottoms One Last Promise is an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride from start to finish. From the Alaskan wilderness to Miami vibes, this book has all the action—with a healthy dose of romance on the side. Perfect! Moose spent a year eating late-night meals just to have a few minutes with Tillie, the waitress who drew his interest. She shoots him down when he asks for a date, then disappears shortly after. Showing up out of the blue, battered and bruised, asking for help is the last thing he expects to see. What is going on? Tillie has no place to turn when her daughter is taken by an evil man, but maybe the answer is Moose, the one person she wishes she could trust with her story. Will he help her without pushing for something she can never give? As the stakes become higher and the danger more intense, will they get Hazel back before it’s too late? Both have relied on their own strength for a long time, but maybe this is where they need to grab onto faith and trust the One who already has Hazel in His hands. I lived in Alaska for years and felt like I was traveling along through familiar territory with the characters. I loved this book. I was given a copy courtesy of Revell through NetGalley and Interviews & Reviews. This is my honest opinion of the book. Leave a Reply. |
