Crime podcaster Tori Mitchell closed out her show with an eerie feeling. Had that caller just delivered a thinly veiled threat? Her recent investigative work had resulted in setting an innocent man free, meaning the real criminal was still at large. Maybe it was time to take a trip home, put some distance between her and the caller and see what she could dig up, never for a minute anticipating that her teen nephew had just become a suspect in a murder.

F.B.I. undercover agent Scott Sinclair is in Logan Point rehabilitating his right hand after a potentially career-ending injury. Out fly-fishing, he intercepts Tori racing away from an active shooter. What were the chances? His long-ago summer crush had certainly grown into a beautiful woman, and from the looks of it, she wasn’t ready and willing to trust an old friend for assistance.

As Tori and Scott soon discover, they have become embroiled in a nasty situation that neither of them fully understand, but are forced to accept. Lives are hanging in the balance, including theirs!

Criss-crossing people and possibilities, this romantic suspense accelerates quickly and maintains that steady pace through every chapter, blending in characters from the original series while expanding those from the sidelines. The exceptional word flow, tender moments, and brain puzzling clues add up to one of the best novels this author has written!

This book has very little romance. It is a slow burn in retrospect, to the book length. But the book takes place over a short time. The characters were together a lot. So even though it was a short timeframe, it did not feel unrealistic because it could happen. It also helped that they had known each other briefly in the past.

I enjoyed the good mystery that Patricia Bradley presented us with. It left me guessing as to who the culprit was going to be, and even though I did not know who it was going to be, I had a few guesses. It was intriguing to see how the story and mystery unfolded. Patricia Bradley orchestrated many pieces of a puzzle into this one book. 

Scott has a past that is not disclosed, except for a brief mention. There is another book in a different series with his brother that I am definitely going to have to go read now.
