Twelve years later, Mr. Fancourt returns to British society with two children and a mad hunger for justice. Racing against time, Simon works to uncover the men responsible for his wife’s horrific murder, protect his children, and fulfill his father’s unexpected will by marrying Georgina—the last thing in the world he wants to do. But as tragedies unravel and secret enemies narrow their sights on Simon, Georgina risks her life—and her reputation—to protect him and the children. Will the danger scorch them alive? Or will it, for the first time, open his heart to her? ![]() Reviewer: Paula Shreckhise Gothic drama fills the pages of this Regency story that has scenes in 1813 America and progresses to England as Simon Fancourt returns to his family estate. Misconceptions are the rule rather than the exception but stubbornness further complicates the relationship of Simon and Georgina Whitmore who were promised in marriage through a decision made by their parents. This author gives us a complex story with many villainous characters and some who only later show their true colors. Ms. Linder kept me guessing at the resolution, which did not turn out the way I supposed. The tension was palpable and it certainly kept me turning pages. With a slight faith thread and a perplexing romance, this story had a dramatic atmosphere of intrigue and mystery. The well-paced, expertly plotted story filled with mystery, secrets, drama, and emotion kept me enthralled and buried in its pages from beginning to end. Complex, unforgettable characters, who I came to care about, advance the multi-layered plot and enhance the impact of the story. Although the faith element is light, themes of forgiveness, redemption, and self-sacrifice are inspiring. I have read all of Ms. Linder’s books, and I think this is her best one yet! I recommend it as a must read for Regency romantic suspense fans. I received a copy of this book from the Barbour Publishing via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ![]() Reviewer: Laura J. Davis Never Forgotten by Hannah Linder starts with a heart-wrenching scene that is the catalyst for a story that is filled with mystery, deception, heartache and a touch of romance. We follow Simon Fancourt whose wife was brutally murdered. As he sets off across the ocean with his two young children he encounters one problem after the other, leading him to question who he can trust and who he cannot. The one person he should trust, Georgina Whitmore, is still heartbroken at the way he broke off their engagement 12 years earlier and then fled the country for America. She has not stopped loving him but realizes that it might be time to stop. This book had some interesting characters and side stories that at times made me wonder what was going on. I thought Simon had found the man who helped in the murder of his wife, only to be blindsided by the actual villains. Lots of twists and turns in this one, but at times these roadblocks to Simon's quest left me feeling like I'd missed something. The ending was wonderful and had me cheering that for once Simon would wake up and listen to those around him. Much of his problem was his pride, his anger, and his inability to care about the wants and needs of his parents. Sometimes, like God, our parents are trying to do the best for us. And sometimes, we are disobedient children who refuse to do the right thing and so God allows us to suffer the consequences of our bad decisions. This book had no faith element to it so it missed this mark on this. If you like mysteries and a little bit of romance you will probably enjoy Never Forgotten. I received a complimentary copy from Barbour Publishing through NetGalley for my honest opinion. Leave a Reply. |
