This book is not at all what I expected! It took me on a wild adventure full of intrigue, mystery, time travel, and treasure. The treasure sought was not the treasure found. Asher is a complicated character. His whole life is in chaos. He’s lost and lonely. He has walked away from his family and his faith. He teams up with an eccentric man named Winston to find gold. Winston is not a nice person, even though it seems that he is. He cares about himself more than anyone else. His life is literally in his nurse Natalia’s hands. Asher gets sidetracked on his quest in Jerusalem. He’s subject to beatings, lies, deception, and more. He also crosses paths with none other than Jesus, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Asher is an atheist. He does not need a savior. In an interesting twist of fate, Asher finds himself broken and in need of forgiveness. Jesus speaks words of compassion to him. At this point, I was overwhelmed by the events of the book, so I’ll stop here. I sincerely hope that this book is read by many people because the message is one that has stood the test of time.
