the peace of her family's farm, if he will care for Mrs. O'Leary. Matthew agrees for his daughter's sake, but is intent on staying as short a time as necessary. The sojourn at Irish Meadows does wonders for Phoebe, and as she begins to flourish, Matthew finds himself drawn to the O'Learys, especially to the captivating Deirdre. But since he has no intention of leaving his life up north forever, and Deirdre has sworn off marriage in favor of her career, how will they deal with the undeniable attraction between them? ![]() Reviewer: Sabrina Wade Having read the first 2 books prior to this one; Wowsa! (if that is an appropriate word). This book ties together all three books of the Ladies of Manor series precisely. It paints the most adoring canvas to awaken the reader's’ memory of the other storylines. The author had me going, “oh!, now i understand this and that and those.” I did not want to put this book down to work...to do mundane things. Beautifully written. Faith, Hope, Love, Forgiveness, Repentance, Redemption, and all things of the Good Lord are woven intricately throughout this book. I would not call this book overly religious at all. If you are human as I, we struggle with our faults...like the characters in the book. We judge daily, sometimes harshly towards others, especially ourselves. Nonetheless, we all desire to hope there is more to our present struggle. That there is freedom from what holds us in bondagage. That we can smiles just as bright as the next person. That we too want to fully live the life we were giving as a gift. If any of these thoughts ever came to your mind, you will surely come to live even for a short period of time through the eyes of one or 2 of the characters in this epic book. Be bless as I was. Brown Set in Long Island toward the end of 1922 Love’s Faithful Promise is an easy to read love story—handsome widower with sickly withdrawn child meets auburn haired, green eyed, life loving, career-minded beauty! Deirdre O'Leary, daughter of a wealthy land owner/horse trainer, struggles to resolve two desires—to become a doctor, and the desire to have a family as wife of Dr. Clayborne, and be a mother. In her time, one had to choose. Roles of men and women were well defined. The same theme of having to choose either family or career was played out a second time. You could say that the second round of the theme was how that struggle worked out for “working class folks” as opposed to the professional class. This time Deirdre’s brother, Connor, head horse trainer, falls in love with Jo, who masquerades as a boy to get a job working with horses. The author has worked the plot masterfully. She keeps the pace going with twist after twist. She knew exactly when to stop. I appreciate not being pulled along until I wish it would stop, desperately wanting it to end but unwilling to put it down without knowing how it resolved! I loved Mason’s characters. She drew them vividly; they had depth. They are people you might know and had foibles like the rest of us. I liked how she kept passing the action from one character to another and not spending time predominately in one character’s thoughts. Technically flawless—no misspellings, spacing gaps, or words left out. I appreciate a clean read. Mason has a knack for using her words to draw pictures in your mind and express the emotion of the moment. I would recommend this as a good read for lovers of historical romance and romance in general; those who like “chick” reads. Deirdre O'Leary is determined to convince Dr. Matthew Clayborne, renowned for his progressive approach to physical therapy, that he must travel back to Irish Meadows and coax her mother back to full health after Kathleen's nearly paralyzing stroke. Postponing her own aspiring medical career, travelling from Long Island to Toronto, Canada in order to meet with Dr. Clayborne face-to-face, Deirdre matches the dour doctor's excuses with every tool of persuasion in her arsenal, but in the end, the decision hinges on improving the health of the doctor's young daughter, Phoebe. Matthew Clayborne does not intend to disrupt his life simply to appease a wealthy New Yorker with a sick wife; his patients, mostly veterans of war, are more important to him. After facing off with the fiery, but quite beautiful, Deirdre, Matthew reluctantly makes arrangements to privately treat Mrs. O'Leary, on the condition that the therapy will be on a trial basis. He fully intends to return to Toronto, putting Irish Meadows and Deirdre O'Leary's dazzling smile and compassionate heart completely out of his mind. But there is more than one person on Long Island who desperately needs to feel the touch of God's merciful healing hand, and it isn't Kathleen O'Leary. Susan Anne Mason has written a beautiful conclusion to her three book series, not only penning a breath-holding romance between Deirdre and Matthew, but including a clever parallel story surrounding Connor O' Leary and his own unexpected rodeo of love.
