She loved Micha Hamilton, no matter how determined her daddy was to keep them apart. Charlotte’s endearing love tugged at my heart, but I also loved the special bond between her and her mother. A tragedy made it necessary for them to take over the family ranch, but could they overcome the prejudice against women that existed during the late 1880s? A Constant Love is a captivating drama set in Cheyenne in 1887, during a time when ranching was king, life was challenging, and faith was vital. Author Tracie Peterson offers readers a well-written story with unforgettable characters, intriguing historical details, and an inspiring faith message flawlessly woven together. I look forward to the next book in The Hope of Cheyenne series. Micah Hamilton and Charlotte Aldrich have known each other since childhood, and she has loved him just as long. Even as a child, she said she was going to marry him someday, but her father has other plans and makes plans for her to marry a man who she doesn’t love. He thinks he is doing the right thing as this man has money and will take her away from the ranch and give her a life of luxury. All she wants is to run a ranch along with her husband and be a rancher’s wife, just like her mother, who has happily lived this lifestyle. The winter of 1887 outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming was particularly rough, not fit for man or beast. Devastatingly, a significant number of open-range cattle died due to record breaking temperatures and heavy snow in the Great Plains region. The author described this very well, the tragedy and many ranchers and their hands died as well, trying to save the cattle. This time period is referred to as “The Great Die-Up.” After the death of Max’s father during this time period, he becomes a shell of himself. This Christian fiction historical romance explores themes of grief, second chances, and sweet romance. The restorative power of faith in a well-developed story line with characters I’ll look forward to reading more about in the next book in the series. I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House through Interviews & Reviews via NetGalley for my honest opinion. ![]() Reviewer: Diana Varela This is the first book I have read by Tracie Peterson. I want to see where she takes this series in the upcoming books. I hope to see more of Micah and Charlotte in the future books. Also, the sneak peek left me wanting the next book. This book talked a lot about God. The common themes in this book were forgiveness and grace. There were delicate topics, but she handled it well. The main characters were lovable. And the villain, Tracie Peterson, did his part so well. I hated when his parts came up because he was so detestable. Charlotte’s mom was a character I looked forward to reading. She added to the story’s plot. Tracie Peterson’s writing was so easy to understand. I never got confused on which point of view she was referring to, even though it was in third person. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers through Interviews & Reviews. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own. ![]() Reviewer: Laura J. Davis A Constant Love by Tracie Peterson is an exciting Historical Fiction novel set in 1886 Wyoming during a tumultuous time known as “the great die-up.” With a strong cast of characters, the author weaves a tale of love, faith and hardship that includes topics of depression and suicide. Charlotte Aldrich has always loved Micah Hamilton, but he’s always thought of her as a little sister. After the loss of both their fathers and her brother, they deal with a secret that threatens to tear Micah apart. Through love, prayers, and faith, the Aldrich ladies help bring Micah back from the brink. There is a lot to this story that deals with difficult topics. The faith element, the author’s research and wonderful verses that are included will comfort many who have ever had to deal with the loss of anyone through suicide. The romance between Micah and Charlotte is sweet, and the villains make me wonder if we’ll see one of them again in another book. If you enjoy historical romance with a strong faith element, then you will love A Constant Love. I highly recommend it! Nobody was prepared for how bad it was in the end! Charlotte Aldrich and her mom Lucille lost both their husband/father and brother/son due to the freezing conditions. Barely able to survive, it’s only by the grace of God they didn’t lose everything. Lucille and Charlotte have a good head about them when it comes to improvising when necessary, running their ranch, and making a great team. They are also a good example of what it means to be the hands and feet of Christ in helping both neighbors and friends. Their faith is strong and a sturdy foundation for the grief they walk through. I admired both of these women! Micah Hamilton and his dad are longtime close family friends and fellow ranchers who also lost much in the blizzard. One of the losses is Micah’s dad. He understandably goes through a great period of grief and isolates himself from the world. The Aldrich women help pull him out of that dark time and give him a reason to live again. Charlotte has long admired him and is secretly in love with him. Will it be enough to overshadow the losses he’s had and bring light back into his life? And will his faith return to give him hope for a future God has for him? I loved getting a glimpse of a piece of history that I didn’t know about. This novel actually made me look up the great “die-up.” What I learned was heart-rending and devastating. I’m glad the author tackled the subject in her book, showing the grace of God even in the face of great loss and heartbreak. She did it with sensitivity and made it feel real through the lives of her characters. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book by Peterson, but I always appreciate the authenticity a writer includes in creating a well-researched book. I’m sure this one is going to be a favorite among her readers! I loved this novel of grit, determination, and never giving up hope in God, no matter how dire the circumstances are. Someday, I believe we’ll understand, but for now, we have two choices. We either give up on God and walk away, or we trust Him no matter what happens to us. ~the words of Charlotte to Micah. This series follows up the Hearts of Cheyenne series introducing us to new friends and embarking on new adventures. Set in Wyoming in 1887, the heartbreaking yet heartwarming story drew me in immediately and kept me reading expectantly. Vivid descriptions of the ranchers’ struggles for survival against nature, resulting in devastating loss of life and livelihood, evidence meticulous research and enable you to “feel” the story. Wonderfully crafted characters are relatable and linger in your memory long after the story concludes. I enjoyed Charlotte and Micah’s sweet, slowly evolving friends-to-more romance. A second surprising romance adds interest and enjoyment to the story. I appreciate the strong faith thread that offers insightful, scripture based spiritual truths. I genuinely enjoyed this emotionally charged story and highly recommend it. We either give up on God and walk away, or we trust Him no matter what happens to us,” Charlotte recalls Micah’s words in Tracie Peterson’s novel, A Constant Love. The first book in The Hope of Cheyenne series, this 302-page paperback, targets those interested in a historical romance about a young woman in Wyoming who is determined to marry the only person she loves. With no profanity, topics involving lying, suicide, and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. Set in 1887 on a cattle ranch outside of Cheyenne, twenty-one-year-old Charlotte is vehemently averse to marrying the man her father has chosen. But when several families deal with the deathly harsh winter, she and Micah, the man she really loves, must forgive themselves and get rid of the guilt they carry to find love. People living in the American West had to have fortitude and determination to overcome their often-tragic experiences, and this read included how the Great Die-Up changed the cattle industry. The innocence of the two protagonists who were in love was tender while being consistent in a land where women ranchers were unaccepted. I appreciate that the story included the eternal plan of salvation and that trusting in God is important. Those who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ may not like this story that focuses on God’s presence while healing from tragedy, but the prayers, sermons, and verses were not overdone. Some may not like the reason lies were propagated to shield others or themselves. With lying being involved in this tale, it may have been done to preserve the innocent, but it didn’t deal with one character’s outcome enough. If you like a western romance about trusting God in all things, even when it’s heartbreaking, this first book in the series concentrates on protecting love at all costs.
