Reviewer: Beverly Laude This was an engaging story with dual timelines, which the author has combined in an easily readable way. In the present day, Reese Haydn has inherited her uncle’s home on the banks of the Chunky River. Hoping for a fresh start in life, she instead starts seeing strange things, including a noose hanging from Stuckey’s Bridge. She soon discovers that the area has a history of violence and evil. In 1878, Catherine Porter struggles to find acceptance, and she also discovers that the area has a history of unexplained disappearances. Both women face the same evil, which feeds on isolation and fear. Only through faith in God can they fight off the evil that is ancient and persistent in the area. Be aware that there are supernatural/paranormal elements in this book involving angels and demons. Personally, I did not care for this aspect of the book. I don’t believe that humans are being manipulated by demons to do horrific things, all for the pleasure and entertainment of the demons. One quote from the book that will stick with me: “No matter how distant God may feel, or how isolated you may become, His grace is never far.” I received a complimentary copy courtesy of the author through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.
